TSA officers are classified as essential workers, meaning they\u2019re still required to show up, even without pay.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Because of financial uncertainty, many employees called out sick or quit altogether. As the weeks went by, staffing shortages worsened, and wait times grew longer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-airline-bosses-are-at-the-end-of-their-ropes\">Airline bosses are at the end of their ropes<\/h2>\n<p>Airline leaders are fed up with the ongoing shutdown. Last month, several airline CEOs signed an open letter to Congress demanding that lawmakers \u201cimmediately come together to reach an agreement to fund the Department of Homeland Security.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"content-chunk\">\n<p>Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, was among the executives to sign the letter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/media\/delta-ceo-ed-bastian-rips-lawmakers-lack-leadership-dhs-shutdown\">recent appearance<\/a> on the Fox Business show <em>The Claman Countdown<\/em>, he called the situation a travesty. \u201cWe are beyond frustrated at the lack of leadership that\u2019s coming out of Congress,\u201d Bastian said.<\/p>\n<p>Bastian also defended his decision to temporarily suspend the special airport perks that Delta extends to members of Congress.
