In another instance, Phillips described finding himself teleported to a Waffle House miles away from his previous location.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration named Phillips, best known for profiting from <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thehandbasket.co\/p\/conspiracy-theorist-election-denier-fema-gregg-phillips\">election conspiracy theories<\/a>, to one of the top roles at the disaster relief agency in December. \u201cTeleporting is no fun. \u2026 It was scary in a way,\u201d Phillips said on an episode of the podcast <em>Onward<\/em>, which aired prior to his appointment to the federal government. At the time, Phillips said he didn\u2019t know if the experience was \u201cgood\u201d or \u201cevil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After CNN reported on Phillips\u2019s strange claims last month, the Federal Emergency Management Agency official has taken to social media to <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/01\/politics\/fema-official-gregg-phillips-defends-teleportation-claim\">defend<\/a> his experiences and contextualize them in religious terms. In a Truth Social <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@greggphillips\/posts\/116281099668909787\">post<\/a>, Phillips said that God moved him instantaneously \u201cduring a spiritual battle.\u201d Phillips likened his experience to miracles described in the Bible, including the resurrection of Jesus, celebrated on Easter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"content-chunk\">\n<p>\u201cPeople can debate me. Question me. Even ridicule what they don\u2019t understand,\u201d Phillips wrote. In one Truth Social <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@greggphillips\/posts\/116273997379618353\">reply<\/a>, Phillips accused the media of taking his quotes out of context, describing the experiences as a spiritual journey linked to his battle with cancer and attributing the teleportation to \u201cthe power of God.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CNN previously <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/20\/politics\/fema-official-gregg-phillips-violent-rhetoric-teleported-kfile\">reported <\/a>the FEMA official\u2019s account of being teleported: \u201cI was with my boys one time, and I was telling them I was gonna go to Waffle House,\u201d Phillips said in early 2025. \u201cThis was in Georgia, and I end up at a Waffle House like 50 miles away from where I was.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd they said, \u2018Where are you?\u2019 And I said, \u2018A Waffle House.\u2019 They asked, \u2018A Waffle House where?\u2019 And I said, \u2018A Waffle House in Rome, Georgia.\u2019 And they said, \u2018That\u2019s not possible, you just left here a moment ago.\u2019 But it was possible.
