It\u2019s probably two words: vibe coding.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"content-chunk\">\n<p>The App Store was flooded with 235,800 new apps in the first quarter of this year\u2014an increase of 84% over the same period last year, according to new data published by\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/vibe-coding-effect-apples-app-store-saw-84-jump-new-apps-quarter?utm_campaign=%5BREBRAND%5D+RTSU+-+Aut&amp;utm_content=1109&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=cio&amp;utm_term=129\"><em>The Information<\/em><\/a>\u2014after declining by 48% between 2016 and 2024.<\/p>\n<p>That builds on a trend from last year in which developers created a whopping <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/apple-app-store-experiences-surge-in-new-apps-amid-vibe-coding-boom-2000742653\">600,000 new apps<\/a>, leaving people wondering what is behind the big push.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out\u2014perhaps not surprisingly\u2014that with AI tools making it easier to create a mobile application more quickly, more apps are pouring into Apple\u2019s App Store.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"content-chunk\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-this-have-to-do-with-vibe-coding\">What\u2019s this have to do with vibe coding?<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cVibe coding\u201d is using generative artificial intelligence to write code, which is how developers write computer programs.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/karpathy.ai\/\">Andrej Karpathy<\/a>, cofounder of OpenAI, coined the term in February of last year, explaining <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/karpathy\/status\/1886192184808149383\">on X<\/a>: \u201cThere\u2019s a new kind of coding I call \u2018vibe coding,\u2019 where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists. It\u2019s possible because the LLMs (e.g. Cursor Composer w Sonnet) are getting too good.\u201d Today, Anthropic\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/01\/23\/technology\/claude-code.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Claude Code<\/a> is an industry favorite for creating vibe-coded apps.<\/p>\n<p>However, that doesn\u2019t mean Apple is welcoming all vibe coding apps into its store. Citing security concerns, Apple <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/03\/31\/column-apples-crackdown-on-ai-apps-puts-it-wrong-side-of-history.html\">has been cracking down on AI apps<\/a>, even blocking\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/01\/15\/ai-startup-replit-launches-feature-to-vibe-code-mobile-apps.html\">Replit<\/a>. And it\u2019s removed <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anything.com\/\">Anything<\/a>, an AI app builder that says it will \u201cturn your words into mobile apps, sites, tools, and products\u2014built with code.\u201d Anything was pulled from the App Store on March 30, it returned on April 3, and now it\u2019s gone again today, according to <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/26\/04\/06\/vibe-coding-apps-victory-lap-cut-very-short-by-the-app-store\">Apple Insider<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/91522242\/apple-app-store-vibe-coding-generative-ai-unexpected-phenomenon\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s behind a new wave of apps in Apple\u2019s App Store?
