This prevents <\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><span>sarcopenia<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0(age-related muscle wasting), which the <\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><span>NHS<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0and <\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><span>WHO<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0identify as a primary risk factor for loss of independence in later life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"dzhEF ntB6g fpTX4 bMKtZ\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-rvjkz440\"><span class=\"_0pqiG\"><span>To combat this, I recommend a major focus on protein: <\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><span>1g\u00a0of protein per lb of body weight.<\/span><\/strong><span>\u00a0It keeps you strong, protects your joints, and is the most satiating macronutrient, meaning you won&#8217;t feel &#8220;starved&#8221; while in a deficit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"RPe6U ULpUy fpTX4 bMKtZ\" dir=\"auto\" tabindex=\"-1\" id=\"viewer-4wtdz444\"><span aria-hidden=\"https:\/\/www.danielwelstead.com\/post\/true\" id=\"4-the-chefs-edge-the-mary-poppins-strategy-4wtdz444\"\/><span class=\"Pad65\"><span>4.
