{"id":11045,"date":"2026-04-18T01:28:28","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T01:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wildgreenquest.com\/?p=11045"},"modified":"2026-04-18T01:28:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T01:28:28","slug":"norovirus-fears-prompt-fda-warning-to-restaurants-and-retailers-stop-selling-this-recalled-shellfish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wildgreenquest.com\/?p=11045","title":{"rendered":"Norovirus fears prompt FDA warning to restaurants and retailers: Stop selling this recalled shellfish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<p>The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning restaurants and retailers not to sell or serve recalled shellfish from a Washington State company due to potential norovirus contamination.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The recalled shellfish was harvested on March 22 through April 9, according to a <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/alerts-advisories-safety-information\/fda-advises-restaurants-and-retailers-not-serve-or-sell-and-consumers-not-eat-recalled-shellfish\">safety alert<\/a> from the FDA.<\/p>\n<p>The alert follows an <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/issc.org\/sites\/default\/files\/uploads\/2026\/wa-recall-4-10-26.pdf\">April 10 recall<\/a> conducted by the Washington State Department of Health, cautioning the FDA about all species of shellstock from the company, Gomez Shellfish, due to norovirus-like illnesses that were associated with the consumption of raw oysters.<\/p>\n<p>Norovirus is a contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea and is the leading cause of foodborne illness in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-were-affected-product-distributed\">Where were affected product distributed?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The recalled shellfish originally comes from a portion of Hammersley Inlet, Washington. The grower and all WA dealers contacted their buyers following the April recall. <\/p>\n<p>The shellfish was distributed to restaurants and retailers in four states\u2014 California, Oregon, Texas, and Washington.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-norovirus-symptoms-should-i-look-out-for\">What norovirus symptoms should I look out for?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>According to the CDC, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/norovirus\/about\/index.html\">common norovirus symptoms<\/a> to watch for are&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Diarrhea&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Vomiting<\/li>\n<li>Nausea<\/li>\n<li>Stomach pain&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other symptoms include fever, headache, dehydration and body aches.
