Increasingly, those worlds are getting uncomfortably closer together.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-backlash\">The backlash<\/h2>\n<p>The chore coats received criticism online ranging from comments about their design to Palantir\u2019s move to venture deeper into fashion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIMO, a company claiming to champion the US should&#8217;ve done an US chore coat. Historically, US chore coats were made from denim or duck canvas, and had four pockets instead of three (e.g., Sears, Lee, Carhartt). Yours takes after brands like Vetra and Le Labourer, which are French,\u201d one <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/dieworkwear\/status\/2046983563325980914?s=20\">user<\/a> said in an X post.<\/p>\n<p>Another <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/andy_matuschak\/status\/2046709514792317261?s=20\">user<\/a> shared a similar critique, posting to X, \u201cThe thing that seems so crazy-making to me about this is that Palantir is so America-rah-rah but they chose to make their jacket after traditional French chore coat instead of an American one?? I imagine they just don&#8217;t even know what they&#8217;re referencing?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Younes responded that Palantir is a champion of the U.S., but also of its French \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/eliano\/status\/2046987470324088884?s=20\">allies<\/a>.\u201d He explained that he chose the chore coat because he wanted to make something stylish, comfortable, and with subtle branding for his Palantir colleagues to wear to and from customer sites.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree sewn on patch pockets get the job done and keep costs lower. don\u2019t need to add a bunch of zippers and flaps and clutter up the piece. it\u2019s pure,\u201d Younes <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/eliano\/status\/2046922549146038356?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said in a reply<\/a> on X.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-is-palantir-designing-chore-coats\">Why is Palantir designing chore coats?<\/h2>\n<p>Palantir is no stranger to criticism. The company has been a perpetual source of controversy for the work it does for clients including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. military. It recently came under fire for posting a 22-point manifesto on X that summarized the arguments from Nicholas W. Zamiska and Palantir CEO Alex Karp\u2019s book, <em>The Technological Republic: Hard Power, Soft Belief, and the Future of the West<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The culture clash between Palantir&#8217;s work and the public persona it&#8217;s attempting to cultivate through a fashion drop has been the crux of the negative feedback around the chore coat. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuilt in surveillance trackers?\u201d one <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/grim_tonal\/status\/2046626884318900501?s=20\">user<\/a> on X posted about the coats, poking at Palantir&#8217;s involvement in surveillance.<\/p>\n<p>Many reshared and referenced <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/chloeikennedy\/status\/2000043623967039496?s=20\">an X post from December 2025<\/a> by Chloe Iris Kennedy, a fashion contributor at Forbes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In response to the news of Lockheed Martin\u2019s rise in streetwear, she had posted, \u201cin the early 2000s camo print was strategically placed in the fashion zeitgeist as a means of aligning the western world with the war on terror. nowadays war machines can simply release merchandise, label it gorpcore, and the public will willingly fund their acts of terror. this is the consequence of decades of denying the politics of fashion. this is the consequence of years of dwindling media literacy. this is art that thinks you\u2019re stupid.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-future-of-palantir-s-fashion\">The future of Palantir&#8217;s fashion<\/h2>\n<p>Palantir is one of many companies that uses merch as a means of visual public support from fans. <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lockheedmartingear.com\/static\/index.html\">Lockheed Martin<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.boeingstore.com\/collections\/defense\">Boeing<\/a> belong to the ranks of companies that also sell branded clothing. <\/p>\n<p>Younes has continually called Palantir, \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/eliano\/status\/1896704675669549390?s=20\">THE lifestyle brand<\/a>.\u201d&nbsp;In a recent <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/palantir-tennis-merch?utm_campaign=dhtwitter&amp;utm_content=%3Cmedia_url%3E&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\">interview<\/a> with GQ, he explains how their merchandise signals alignment with the company\u2019s mission and his plans for more product lines, explaining that Palantir&#8217;s merch designs derive from CEO Alex Karp&#8217;s gravitation towards the tradition of &#8220;clean, structured aesthetics and strong craftsmanship.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat&#8217;s how we think about our software too, bringing clarity to complexity.
