While skills can be taught, a good attitude cannot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned a very valuable lesson: [if you] have somebody who has a bad attitude, they\u2019re going to suck up other people into their attitude,\u201d Corcoran said in the podcast episode.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One person\u2019s negative outlook can bleed into the rest of the workplace. To protect her team\u2019s culture, Corcoran said she fires people with a bad attitude \u201cright away,\u201d because she doesn\u2019t want them to \u201ccontaminate\u201d other employees\u2019 mindsets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want a happy atmosphere,\u201d she added. \u201cThe minute I see a complainer, I make an appointment to fire them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Corcoran has been vocal about how negative attitudes impact workplace culture in the past. When asked why she was so irked by complainers in a <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=e6d9PJLAQmE\">past episode of <em>Diary of a CEO<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em>Corcoran answered that complainers are \u201cthieves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey take your money away and they take your energy, and the most valuable asset you have is your energy,\u201d she said in the episode. \u201cAnd if they take your energy away, you\u2019re not going to deliver enough to everybody else\u2014there\u2019s not enough to go around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to <em>how<\/em> and <em>when<\/em> she does the firing, she said, \u201calways on a Friday.\u201d Corcoran <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/minda-zetlin\/barbara-corcoran-says-you-should-always-fire-this-type-of-employee-heres-why-shes-right.html\">received social media backlash<\/a> for this practice in the past, but it seems like that hasn\u2019t changed her day-of-the-week preference.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Corcoran\u2019s firing script is short and simple, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI say, \u2018it\u2019s not working out, you don\u2019t fit in here,\u2019\u201d Corcoran explained. \u201cAnd I give no more information than that. [&#8230;] The first time I fired someone, I tried to explain to them what was lacking, and you never win the argument. You\u2019re better off saying, \u2018you just don\u2019t fit in here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While she never argues the case, Corcoran isn\u2019t necessarily operating from a place of cruelty or impatience.
