{"id":12065,"date":"2026-05-02T00:40:28","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T00:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wildgreenquest.com\/?p=12065"},"modified":"2026-05-02T00:40:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T00:40:28","slug":"mark-zuckerberg-says-ai-spending-and-war-drove-meta-layoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wildgreenquest.com\/?p=12065","title":{"rendered":"Mark Zuckerberg says AI spending and war drove Meta layoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div data-testid=\"content-chunk\">\n<p>According to a <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/ai\/mark-zuckerberg-blames-slower-sales-on-war-layoffs-on-ai-costs-in-meeting-2e9f8cac\">report<\/a> by <em>The<\/em> <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, Zuckerberg blamed the layoffs on data center and AI infrastructure spending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe [basically] have two cost centers in the company,\u201d Zuckerberg said, according to the <em>Journal, <\/em>pointing to raw processing power, like GPUs and chips, and to data centers. \u201cThere\u2019s [compute and infrastructure] and there\u2019s people-oriented things, and if we\u2019re investing more in one area to serve our community, then that means that we have less capital to basically allocate to the other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that means that we do need to take down the size of the company somewhat.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"content-chunk\">\n<p>During the meeting, Zuckerberg also touched on downsizing teams in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a team used to take 50 or 100 people and now it takes 10\u2014having 50 or 100 people on that team can actually be counterproductive going forward. So I think we need to fix that,\u201d Zuckerberg said.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the layoffs announcement in April, employee morale at Meta seems to have been on the decline in recent months.
