Nike ACG’s new Pegasus Trail earned my trust when it delivered enough stopping power to keep more than 320 pounds from careening off a steep, mud-slicked bluff into the ocean. Those pounds weren’t all mine: The weight included two sled dogs—rescues I’d just taken charge of—with a lot of excess energy. The best way to burn it off? Turning my body into the sled they instinctively crave by tethering them to my waist and hurling ourselves down the burliest trail we can find in a 10-legged tornado of sweat, mud, and fur.

Nike ACG pitches the Pegasus Trail as a “shoe for every surface.” Like a lot of folks, I’d been used to saving the Swoosh for the street or even a night out. But with this new trail runner, I quickly learned it delivers on pavement and as well as dirt, gravel, rocks, or whatever else my route throws at me. Lace ’em up, head out, don’t overthink it: Reaching for the Pegasus Trail on a predawn jaunt into the Cascades or (more often) a run across the transitional terrain between my house and our local greenbelt meant I truly had access to a one-quiver shoe.

Look into the guts of the Pegasus Trail and you’ll find an updated ReactX foam midsole, now with a slightly higher stack that brings more energy return and a noticeably springier ride than previous versions. It’s cushy enough to take the edge off long miles but still stable when the terrain gets uneven—so stable I could hopscotch minifridge-size boulders and driftwood logs at the tideline even while tied into my sniff-crazed pooches.

The shoe shines underfoot, where a new All Terrain Compound (ATC) outsole offers a grip that feels confident on loose dirt and holds up well on wet rock and sloppy patches. Rather than a super-aggressive tread pattern, the Pegasus Trail takes a balanced approach that can handle the high country as well as the sweet-spot mixed terrain that constitutes most of our trail running lives—think trailheads that start on pavement and drift into singletrack.

Up top, an engineered mesh upper keeps things light without feeling fragile. It prioritizes movement and breathability, but it holds up well to typical trail abrasion and moderate bushwacking. A redesigned, wider forefoot gives toes room to spread for grip on descents and affords a subtle boost in stability for technical sections. At around 10.8 oz. and sporting an 8mm drop, the Pegasus Trail feels light enough for a run, cushioned enough for a long hike, and comfortable (and dare we say stylish) enough to wear all day.

But being able to reach for one shoe no matter the run or conditions brings one giant benefit no tech stats can convey: more time seeing my muddy mongrels grinning ear to ear.

Buy Now

Nike’s Mission: To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world.

*If you have a body, you are an athlete.

Source link

Nike ACG’s all-terrain Pegasus Trail handles anything a path can dish out Nike ACG’s new Pegasus Trail (Photo: Nike) Published May 4, 2026 10:34AM Here’s a shoe test you don’t see everyday.
