Next, that same image, but edited with AI to make the bitten chicken wing appear raw. Finally, a screenshot from her DoorDash app, showing that the company issued her $39.24 of credit to use on future DoorDash orders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShout out to ChatGPT,\u201d reads text overlaid on the video.<\/p>\n<p>Starr\u2019s refund strategy <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@mi5under5t00d\/video\/7636294490948390175\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">went viral on TikTok<\/a>, garnering 4.4 million views and thousands of comments\u2014including one from DoorDash itself.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-this-gets-people-fired-social-media-responds\">\u201cThis gets people fired\u201d: Social media responds<\/h2>\n<p>Though Starr seemed flippant about using AI to make her food look undercooked, social media wasn\u2019t on her side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis gets people fired btw,\u201d one commenter wrote. \u201cSome people&#8217;s [lives] depend on DoorDash or Uber and [you&#8217;re] gonna get [them] fired over a few dollars? Selfish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is honestly a disgusting thing to do, why would you take advantage of small businesses?!\u201d commented another.<\/p>\n<p>DoorDash itself even chimed in with a comment that went viral in its own right. \u201cOop should\u2019ve blocked us!\u201d the company commented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow why would I do that if my chicken was raw?\u201d Starr replied.<\/p>\n<p>In the video\u2019s caption, Starr explained that she <em>did<\/em> have problems with her order, including two missing items and that her chicken was cold when it arrived\u2014but the chicken being raw, a much more serious issue, was apparently her own invention.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DoorDash has policies in place to protect merchants from fraudulent claims like Starr\u2019s, including flagging users who repeatedly request refunds and conducting manual review of those customers\u2019 claims. But as AI images become more and more convincing, even manual review can fall through.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-doordash-s-love-hate-relationship-with-ai\">DoorDash\u2019s love-hate relationship with AI<\/h2>\n<p>Though DoorDash\u2019s comment may imply it\u2019s anti-AI, the company uses AI throughout its business practice, including <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/about.doordash.com\/en-us\/news\/ai-powered-merchant-tools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a newly announced suite of AI tools for merchants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of DoorDash\u2019s more controversial AI uses is enhancing and editing images of food. As DoorDash explains on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/help.doordash.com\/en-us\/consumers\/article\/photos-faqs\" id=\"https:\/\/help.doordash.com\/en-us\/consumers\/article\/photos-faqs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">its Photo FAQs page<\/a>, any photos on the app labeled \u201cAI-enhanced\u201d have been altered by AI to re-plate dishes, replace background elements, fill in missing portions of images, or change the perspective to make food more visible.
