While I still believe the &#8220;natural&#8221; route\u2014focusing on behavioural change\u2014is the gold standard for those with full mobility, I now see these medications as a net positive for society when used as part of a comprehensive strategy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"UFQNs _16xou DcaPr o-zp-\" dir=\"auto\" tabindex=\"-1\" id=\"viewer-l2li5277\"><span aria-hidden=\"https:\/\/www.danielwelstead.com\/post\/true\" id=\"levelling-the-playing-field-for-limited-mobility-l2li5277\"\/><span class=\"-kP5W\"><span>Levelling the Playing Field for Limited Mobility<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"-Q4aO hw1z8 DcaPr o-zp-\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-dsv9q279\"><span class=\"ATqq4\"><span>The primary reason for my shift is <\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><span>NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis)<\/span><\/strong><span>. For a healthy individual, NEAT accounts for a massive chunk of daily calorie burn. But for clients with severe mobility issues or those recovering from catastrophic injuries like an ACL rupture, that &#8220;energy out&#8221; side of the equation is severely compromised.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"-Q4aO hw1z8 DcaPr o-zp-\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-uquwe283\"><span class=\"ATqq4\"><span>In these cases, pharmacological assistance isn&#8217;t a shortcut; it\u2019s a <\/span><strong style=\"font-weight:700\"><span>stabiliser<\/span><\/strong><span>. Recent data indicate that GLP-1 therapy is associated with significantly greater reductions in BMI compared to physical activity alone in certain populations (<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC12831554\/\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"dtqu- Cnx4-\" data-hook=\"web-link\"><u style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><span>Vembu et al., 2026<\/span><\/u><\/a><span>). It helps maintain the energy balance when the physical body is temporarily unable to do the heavy lifting.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"UFQNs _16xou DcaPr o-zp-\" dir=\"auto\" tabindex=\"-1\" id=\"viewer-eg8bw289\"><span aria-hidden=\"https:\/\/www.danielwelstead.com\/post\/true\" id=\"the-muscle-tax-and-the-chefs-perspective-eg8bw289\"\/><span class=\"-kP5W\"><span>The &#8220;Muscle Tax&#8221; and the Chef\u2019s Perspective<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p class=\"-Q4aO hw1z8 DcaPr o-zp-\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-r9476291\"><span class=\"ATqq4\"><span>As a former chef, my biggest concern with rapid weight loss is the loss of lean muscle mass.
