It was part of the streaming platform&#8217;s \u201cYour Party of the Year(s)\u201d promotion\u2014 a Wrapped-style in-app experience built for its 20th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>Temporary or not, it&#8217;s not surprising that the update rankled many of Spotify&#8217;s users. &#8220;People think reactions like this are about a logo, but they are usually about emotional familiarity and subconscious trust,&#8221; says Ravi Sawhney, founder and CEO of the industrial design consultancy RKS Design. Even subtle visual changes can create a feeling of disruption.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">[Image: Spotify]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-\"><\/h2>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time Spotify has played around with its logo. It has redesigned its mark for promotional moments like Wrapped, including <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.creativebloq.com\/design\/logos-icons\/the-new-spotify-wrapped-logos-are-a-challenge-to-decipher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">last year&#8217;s<\/a>, which paid homage to artists like Lady Gaga, PinkPanthress, and Justin Bieber. But none of the other updates have struck a nerve like its disco design.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.fastcompany.com\/image\/upload\/wp-cms-2\/2026\/05\/i-2-91540262-spotify-20th.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">[Images: Spotify]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>These orchestrated brand moments\u2014outrage-inducing or not\u2014are ultimately a play for attention, and attention is exactly what Spotify got. After rolling out the temporary logo, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/refinestudio\/status\/2056315545516154881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">designers<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NotionHQ\/status\/2056050857456926908\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">brand accounts<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RaceJohnson\/status\/2055815818357940325\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">responded<\/a> to Spotify&#8217;s new look by <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/solana\/status\/2055933403380531540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bedazzling<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FiachraRM\/status\/2056172311620075824\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">their logos<\/a> and icons. The disco ball became its own visual filter, where participants treated the limited-time Spotify logo like <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PopBase\/status\/1744719004512776511\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a pop star&#8217;s album art reveal meme cycle<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Love it or hate it, it worked out for Spotify.
