New research from Unscramblerer.com analyzed Google search data for \u201chow to spell\u201d and found that \u201cbusiness\u201d ranks as the fourth most misspelled word in America, with 123,600 searches between January and May 2026. The culprit? That darn silent \u201ci\u201d that trips people up.<\/p>\n
The top spot goes to \u201cbougie,\u201d followed by \u201cfavorite\u201d and \u201cthrough.\u201d Other commonly misspelled words include \u201ctomorrow,\u201d \u201cbecause,\u201d \u201cdefinitely,\u201d and \u201cbeautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n
The research also broke down the most misspelled words by state. Alabama, Maryland, Mississippi and Wisconsin all struggle the most with \u201cbusiness.\u201d Georgia, Oklahoma and Wyoming can\u2019t spell \u201cchihuahua.\u201d North Carolina and Virginia get all tangled up with \u201cspaghetti.\u201d<\/p>\n
