Stock market analysts have been sounding the warning bells for the last year, but those warnings just got louder\u2014and some are saying a resounding yes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing that&#8217;s got market watchers worried: While the S&amp;P 500 closed out May on a record high (largely driven by semiconductors), only a few of those 500 companies\u2014just 20 to be exact\u2014hit their own all-time highs. That&#8217;s a similar pattern that occurred during the dot-com internet bubble<em>, <\/em><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/01\/the-stock-market-just-did-something-eerily-similar-to-the-dotcom-bubble-top-in-2000.html\" id=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/06\/01\/the-stock-market-just-did-something-eerily-similar-to-the-dotcom-bubble-top-in-2000.html\">according to<em> CNBC<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the stock market rises and shares of tech stocks hit historic, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/markets\/stocks\/articles\/14-companies-now-worth-over-132051036.html\" id=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/markets\/stocks\/articles\/14-companies-now-worth-over-132051036.html\">$1 trillion<\/a> valuations, there&#8217;s no arguing that the current stock-market boom is heavily driven by the results of a handful of mega-cap growth stocks, including the so-called <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fidelity.com\/learning-center\/smart-money\/magnificent-7-stocks\" id=\"https:\/\/www.fidelity.com\/learning-center\/smart-money\/magnificent-7-stocks\">Magnificent Seven<\/a>\u00a0(Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back in 2018, only Apple had hit the $1 trillion mark; now that group collectively has a market caps of some $35 trillion and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/markets\/stocks\/articles\/14-companies-now-worth-over-132051036.html\" id=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/markets\/stocks\/articles\/14-companies-now-worth-over-132051036.html\">includes<\/a>: SK Hynix, Micron, Samsung, Berkshire Hathaway, Meta, Tesla, Saudi Aramco, Broadcom, TSMC, Amazon Alphabet, Microsoft , and Nvidia, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/markets\/stocks\/articles\/14-companies-now-worth-over-132051036.html\" id=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/markets\/stocks\/articles\/14-companies-now-worth-over-132051036.html\">per 24\/7 Wall St.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-what-was-the-dot-com-bubble-and-how-is-the-market-similar-today\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What was the dot-com bubble and how is the market similar today?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The dot-com bubble &#8220;was characterized by a rapid rise in U.S. technology stock values in the late 1990s, driven by heavy investments in internet-based startups with little to no profits,&#8221; <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/d\/dotcom-bubble.asp\" id=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/d\/dotcom-bubble.asp\">according to<\/a> <em>Investopedia<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those internet startups raised significant money to take their companies public before that bubble eventually burst. After driving up the market, including the Nasdaq five-fold, the market collapsed by nearly 77% by October 2002. Many companies went bankrupt, spurring a mass exodus from Silicon Valley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, we are seeing artificial intelligence startups like Anthropic and OpenAI raise billions for their upcoming IPOs, while at the same time many <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/tech-companies-spending-unprecedented-700-021345857.html\" id=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/tech-companies-spending-unprecedented-700-021345857.html\">tech companies are spending an unprecedented amount to build massive AI data centers<\/a>\u2014<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/tech-companies-spending-unprecedented-700-021345857.html\" id=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/tech-companies-spending-unprecedented-700-021345857.html\">$700 billion<\/a> in 2026, alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, like over 25 years ago, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/sectors\/technology\/articles\/nearly-80-000-tech-workers-101155507.html\" id=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/sectors\/technology\/articles\/nearly-80-000-tech-workers-101155507.html\">tech workers are losing their jobs<\/a> in what seems like rolling layoffs, as <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@makowski794_75398\/silicon-valleys-surprising-exodus-why-they-re-fleeing-ca-cd4481fa5ef1\" id=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@makowski794_75398\/silicon-valleys-surprising-exodus-why-they-re-fleeing-ca-cd4481fa5ef1\">Silicon Valley sees another reported exodus.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The silver lining, if there is one: while we may be in a AI bubble, some analysts are saying <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YUg6FDo_8Ao\" id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YUg6FDo_8Ao\">it&#8217;s not over yet.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/91551762\/stock-market-ai-bubble-recent-warning-sign-sp-500-mag-seven\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are we in an AI bubble, similar to the dot-com bubble which burst in the early 2000s?
