Welcome to my deeper dive into today\u2019s Connections <\/em>answers. The idea behind this is to help clear things up for anyone who isn\u2019t sure how today\u2019s groups fit together.<\/p>\n If I\u2019ve missed any red herrings or misunderstood something, let me know via email or on Discord<\/a>. I don\u2019t typically look at X or check the comments here. <\/p>\n I\u2019m going to assume that you\u2019ve already beaten today\u2019s game. We\u2019re going straight into spoiler territory<\/strong> here. So, consider this your one and only warning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Here are today\u2019s NYT Connections<\/em> answers explained (and any red herrings I spot) for Monday, June 8: <\/p>\n Play Puzzles & Games on Forbes<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \ud83d\udfe8 landforms by water (DELTA, ISLAND, ISTHMUS, PENINSULA)<\/p>\n A DELTA is a landform that\u2019s often triangular (like the Greek letter) and is formed by deposits at a river\u2019s mouth. <\/p>\n An ISLAND is a landform completely surrounded by water \u2013 as all land technically is.<\/p>\n An ISTHMUS is a narrow strip of land that connects two larger landforms across water.<\/p>\n A PENINSULA is connected to the mainland on only one side and is otherwise surrounded by water.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udfe9 slang for head (COCONUT, DOME, MELON, PATE)<\/p>\n Without getting into the etymology of it, the category title has us covered here.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udfe6 things that can be spiked (MOHAWK, PUNCH, SEA URCHIN, VOLLEYBALL)<\/p>\n A MOHAWK is a hairstyle that typically features both sides of the head being shaved with a strip of longer hair in the center. This is often shaped into a spike using hair products. Here\u2019s a particularly tall example:<\/p>\n A PUNCH is typically a combination of fruit juices that\u2019s served in a large bowl from which people can serve themselves. If alcohol is added, it\u2019s deemed to be spiked.<\/p>\n There are more than 950 species of the SEA URCHIN. They typically have a hard shell that\u2019s covered in spines. The gonads (or tongues) of some SEA URCHIN species are often eaten as a delicacy too:<\/p>\n To spike a VOLLEYBALL, a player will typically jump at the net, and strike the ball downward and into the opponent\u2019s side of the court with their palm.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udfea The _____ Man movies (ELEPHANT, INVISIBLE, OMEGA, RUNNING)<\/p>\n The ELEPHANT Man<\/em> is a David Lynch drama that\u2019s based on the life of Joseph Merrick, who was known for his deformities:<\/p>\n There have been several movies titled The INVISIBLE Man<\/em> that were based on H.G. Wells\u2019 novel of the same name. The most recent was a 2020 horror film by Leigh Whannell. I haven\u2019t seen it yet, but I feel like this trailer gives away an awful lot!<\/p>\n Nor have I seen The OMEGA Man, a post-apocalyptic action film from the \u201870s by Boris Sagal that\u2019s based on Richard Matheson\u2019s novel, I Am Legend<\/em> (which was also adapted into a film starring Will Smith). This version stars Charlton Heston:<\/p>\n I have seen both iterations of The RUNNING Man<\/em>. As much as I enjoy Edgar Wright\u2019s work in general, I prefer Paul Michael Glaser\u2019s version from 1987, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger:<\/p>\n Connections often has some red herrings.
