{"id":14859,"date":"2026-06-12T14:39:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T14:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wildgreenquest.com\/?p=14859"},"modified":"2026-06-12T14:39:26","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T14:39:26","slug":"on-the-border-is-closing-stores-today-full-list-of-doomed-locations-includes-company-owned-restaurants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wildgreenquest.com\/?p=14859","title":{"rendered":"On The Border is closing stores today: Full list of doomed locations includes company-owned restaurants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Casual Tex-Mex restaurant chain On The Border Mexican Grill &amp; Cantina is closing its company-owned locations by the end of the day today, a spokesperson confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2025, and was acquired by Pappas Restaurants two months later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time of the acquisition, Dallas-based Pappas <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.franchisetimes.com\/franchise_mergers_and_acquisitions\/bankruptcy-court-approves-on-the-borders-sale-to-pappas-restaurants\/article_63b46e21-0466-41c8-8513-420216d8b3ba.html\">took on<\/a> 60 U.S. locations and 20 franchised locations in South Korea, <em>Franchise Times<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since then, the casual restaurant chain has continued to reduce its footprint. The brand&#8217;s official website currently lists 33 locations nationwide\u201417 of them are in Texas, the state where the chain was founded in 1982.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOn The Border Mexican Grill &amp; Cantina has made the difficult decision to move forward with a significant transition in its restaurant operations, which will include the closing of company-owned locations by end of day Friday, June 12, 2026,\u201d OTB Hospitality said in a statement emailed to <em>Fast Company<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company added that it made the decision following a thorough review of its business. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We are currently evaluating the future of the On The Border brand and exploring a range of strategic options,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cOur immediate focus is on supporting our team members through this transition and ensuring an orderly and respectful closure.\u201d \u200b<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-which-locations-are-closing\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which locations are closing? <\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OTB did not single out specific locations in its statement.
