Now, the company\u2019s chief technology officer, Andrew \u201cBoz\u201d Bosworth, said that morale at Meta is \u201cprobably one of the worst it&#8217;s ever been.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/meta-cto-andrew-bosworth-addresses-morale-after-layoffs-ai-shift-2026-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Business Insider<\/em><\/a>, during an internal \u201cTuesdays With Boz\u201d meeting on June 2, Bosworth said morale is \u201cmaybe not the worst it&#8217;s ever been in 20 years here, but it&#8217;s probably up there. It\u2019s definitely up there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI can think Cambridge Analytica was probably the worst,\u201d Bosworth added, referring to the 2010s political scandal when up to 87 million Facebook users\u2019 data was used to target voters without their consent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta declined to provide further comment to <em>Fast Company.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aside from the layoffs, employee dissatisfaction with Meta has grown for other reasons in the last few months.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In April, the company faced backlash for using mouse-tracking software to collect employee data that would train its AI models. Staffers pushed back by creating an online petition and posting flyers across U.S. offices encouraging Meta employees to sign. At the same time, Meta plans to spend up to $145 billion this year on AI infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Fast Company <\/em>previously reported that Meta employees were venting about AI and layoffs on Blind. According to a report from the anonymous workplace forum, posts containing negative sentiment about AI at Meta had grown to 83% since late 2025\u2014a roughly 300% jump since 2024, when 20% of posts on the site about AI at Meta were negative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMeta is dead and depressing,\u201d one post on the platform said after the company\u2019s layoff announcements; \u201cThey do not care about the employees anymore, and all they care about is AI,\u201d another post read.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In April, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/investor.atmeta.com\/investor-news\/press-release-details\/2026\/Meta-Reports-First-Quarter-2026-Results\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meta reported<\/a> $56.31 billion in revenue\u2014 a 33% year-over-year increase\u2014and nearly $26.8 billion in profit for the first three months of the year. Employees, on the other hand, have had their stock portion of annual raises <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/071d5503-b3dc-46bc-bc55-28f92dbdd42a?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cut by 5%<\/a> and, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/meta-layoffs-bad-vibes-mark-zuckerberg-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to <em>Wired<\/em><\/a>, median total compensation dropped from $417,400 in 2024 to $388,200 last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMeta needs to be the best place for the best people to do their best work,\u201d Bosworth said in a memo issued Monday, which was <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/andrew-bosworth-meta-employees-unrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first reported by <em>Wired<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a portion of the memo\u2014titled \u201cBack to Day 1\u201d\u2014provided to <em>Fast Company <\/em>from sources close to the matter, Bosworth also said the company \u201cmust provide our people the support to do things the right way for the long term, including taking smart risks when the situation calls for it and to be recognized for it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf we can deliver on these commitments, I hope we can rekindle the best of the culture we joined,\u201d Bosworth wrote. \u201cOne where people have the psychological safety to take risks and do the right thing over a long period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe shook up the management structure that was providing you stability while rapid changes in strategy, including the boom\/bust cycle of hiring, left entire teams in the lurch,\u201d Bosworth added in the memo, as <em>Wired<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To make up for the dip in employee morale, Bosworth outlined that staffers would receive more attention by capping managers at 20 direct reports, and placing a limit on the number of times employees switch to new managers as a result of restructurings. He added that Meta leadership would work toward better explaining company strategy shifts to employees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bosworth said that Meta doesn\u2019t believe AI would outright replace AI workers, but that someone more skilled in AI might.\u00a0\u201cWe should heed the saying, \u2018AI won\u2019t take your job, but someone who knows AI might,\u2019\u201d he added, echoing a sentiment that other AI leaders\u2014like Nvidia\u2019s Jensen Huang\u2014have said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, he said that he would work toward making Meta a \u201cfun and enjoyable\u201d place.
