Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said on a recent episode of Lenny\u2019s Podcast<\/em><\/a> that he looks for three core traits in new hires. No matter what their function in the company, he searches for workers who are quick learners, gritty and self-aware.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIf you are those three things, if you\u2019ve got fire in your belly, you learn quickly, and you\u2019re self-aware, you can kind of get good at anything eventually,\u201d Mosseri said. \u201cBut if any of those things are missing, there\u2019s usually an issue.\u201d<\/p>\n Self-awareness is especially important because it means \u201cyou can actually take feedback,\u201d he said. That matters considering Instagram\u2019s broad user base: The app boasts three billion users<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n It\u2019s also vital considering tech is likely to change dramatically over the next decade, according to Mosseri. He emphasized the importance of adaptability in workers who are set to thrive in an AI-driven world.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI think two things that I\u2019m continuing to encourage myself to do are to stay curious and to put yourself out there,\u201d he said. \u201cI just think you\u2019ve got to try things.\u201d<\/p>\n Mosseri likened an openness to AI to learning a new language.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAre you willing to sound like an idiot?\u201d he said. \u201cAre you willing just to say it and be corrected and not be offended and then just get better and better? You just have to put yourself out there. And with all of these new tools and models and technologies, I think you just have to be willing to try stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n Scale AI\u2019s interim CEO, Jason Droege<\/a>, said in an October episode<\/a> of Lenny\u2019s Podcast<\/em> that he interviews workers across disciplines.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWhenever I would hire people, I was trying to compose almost like an organism of strengths and then minimize the conflicts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n He can\u2019t be an expert in every field, so he pins down what he is looking for to three things: curious problem-solving, humble collaboration and good leadership skills.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIf you just do those three things, I think you have a pretty high chance of success at least in an organization,\u201d he said. \u201cThe world\u2019s changing, right? So you do need people that are adaptable.
