Blue-light lenses, MTB glasses, polarized sunglasses, you name it. My collection isn’t organized like a designer closet, but let me tell you, it’s bubbling over my shelves.

My addiction to shades is for good reasons. Like most of us, I spend a lot of time outdoors. I’m skiing down my Montana slopes in the winter and paddling down home rivers during the summer—activities that can be hard on the eyes, since both snow and water reflect sunlight, which can cause harm or damage your eyes. And my computer screen is no different. As a writer who spends eight or more hours a day at the keyboard, protective glasses are an essential part of my daily work fit.

Plus, I like to look cute. I’m just a girl, c’mon.

A Snowboard Legend’s New Eyewear Collab

When I heard snowboard legend Jeremy Jones teamed up with Caddis eyewear on a new collaboration, I simply had to try the frames. Caddis makes premium, high-quality glasses that are stylish enough to wear out on the town, yet sturdy enough to take into the backcountry. If you’ve been following me, you already know I love taking my style from slopeside to streetwear—and from the river to my real life.

Root Cause Analysis Aviator

(Photo: Caddis)

The Root Cause Analysis Aviator frames are available in both readers ($130) and prescription ($180), and fit in medium. This shape is ideal for oval, square, and heart faces, in case you were wondering. As with most Caddis glasses, these frames also have a daring custom etching on the topside that reads, “The Journey is the Reward.” How fitting for us adventurers.

Caddis frames have a sturdy build that complements my face, which I personally love. The frames weigh a bit heavier than most, but that’s because they use a premium high-density bio-based acetate—not some cheap plastic injection. The heavy-duty hinges also ensure that the glasses withstand everyday wear and a lot of flex.

(Photo: Madison Dapcevich)

The frames also come in a variety of colors, from black and green to plaid and hot pink. A few other important specs featured in the glasses:

A premium hard coating protects lenses, increasing durability and minimizing scratches.

Lenses include a high-performance water, dirt, and grease-repellent coating for easy maintenance and superior optics.

Premium, bio-based acetate frame with three-barrel industrial hinges.

Even though these aren’t sports sunglasses, these blue-light glasses fit my outdoorsy lifestyle indoors. As an associate editor at Outside, I spend most of my weekdays behind a computer screen. I tested the glasses against other generic blue-light lenses by wearing them throughout my workday. These frames may not be built for the trail, but they’re definitely built for the trail girlie. Did I mention they look cute?

Blue light lenses filter out some of the blue wavelengths emitted through digital screens (like this laptop I’m typing from right now). While scientific evidence is inconclusive on just how effective blue light frames are, I find that I sleep better on the days that I wear them consistently. I’ve also found that blue light lenses reduces glare from screens, which in turn may help lessen strain on my eyes.

(Photo: Madison Dapcevich)

A Collab That Gives Back

What sets the collab apart from others, for me at least, is that the partnership raises money for Protect Our Winters (POW). Jones started POW in 2007 to bring the outdoor community together in a mission of protecting clean air, water, and a healthy planet. Creating meaningful, high-quality products is one way of giving back to our planet, he says.

“Recreating outdoors is a salve to the chaos of everyday life. It’s the opposite of doomscrolling. A place to clear your head, connect with the natural world, move your body, free your mind,” Jones told Outside.

“The product, the people, and the spirit of the brand are what led me to work with Caddis. Looking at computer screens, especially in the morning and at night, is harsh on my eyes. As far as the collaboration, it has been a creative experience.
