With fewer crowds and smaller footprints than the national parks, state parks offer a more digestible and hassle-free avenue to spend time in the great outdoors. And there\u2019s no better example of this than Nebraska\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" rel=\"sponsored\" data-afl-p=\"2\" href=\"https:\/\/visitnebraska.com\/crawford\/fort-robinson-state-park\">Fort Robinson State Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a state full of hidden gems, Fort Robinson shines. From its sweeping views of the Great Plains to its equestrian campgrounds to its rich and complicated history, this unassuming state park belongs on every Nebraska adventure itinerary.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"fp-remove\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"position:absolute\" title=\"Nebraska Tourism Fort Robinson State Park Rough Cut\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.jwplayer.com\/players\/eyhDP6CG-vEu7c4fo.html\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"auto\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With more than 60 miles of hiking trails to explore, Fort Robinson has something for everyone, from easy strolls to tough climbs (albeit with views that are well worth the effort). I tried Turtle Rock Trail, an easy\/moderate loop that leads to a stunning viewpoint overlooking the plains to the south. Or take one of the many trail variations to Lover\u2019s Leap, a sandstone butte that offers 360-degree views. The park offers guided trail rides that will make you feel like you\u2019re in a Western, moseying from the valley below all the way to the top of the buttes that overlook the vast plains. You can also bring your own horse, ride the trails and post up for the night at the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" rel=\"sponsored\" data-afl-p=\"2\" href=\"https:\/\/outdoornebraska.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Mare-Barn-Campground-4-Feb-2026.pdf\">Mare Barn Equestrian Campground<\/a>. Once a U.S. Army post, the fort hosted some of the most significant moments of the Sioux Wars in the late 1800s.
