Construction crews set them up in the Bright Angel area to fix the old water supply line, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Transcanyon Waterline is a fragile, 12.5-mile lifeline supplying South Rim hotels and 2,500 residents. The August 29 flood severely damaged 40 percent of it, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Then, on September 16, the secondary flash flood deposited additional rubble in the Colorado River and raised water levels by up to a foot, Martin said. No potable water is available along the inner canyon trails or at Havasupai Gardens. Smith was hiking with Guisti and Rosenkranz when the floods occurred.<\/p>\n<h2>Devastation on the Ground<\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" rel=\"noopener\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/raftgc\/permalink\/28247075604953932\/\">Tom Martin<\/a>, a Grand Canyon <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" rel=\"noopener\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/rrfw.org\/riverwires\">expert and author<\/a>, told <em>Outside<\/em>\u00a0that he saw footage showing several mobile living units damaged in the most recent flash flood on September 16. Construction crews set them up in the Bright Angel area to fix the old water supply line, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Transcanyon Waterline is a fragile, 12.5-mile lifeline supplying South Rim hotels and 2,500 residents. The August 29 flood severely damaged 40 percent of it, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Then, on September 16, the secondary flash flood deposited additional rubble in the Colorado River and raised water levels by up to a foot, Martin said. Photos he shared on Facebook show large <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" rel=\"noopener\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/raftgc\/permalink\/28249653794696113\/\">wood piles<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" rel=\"noopener\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/raftgc\/permalink\/28247075604953932\/\">debris<\/a> littered throughout Grand Canyon.<\/p>\n<p><em>Outside<\/em> contacted the NPS for further information about the damage but did not receive a response in time for publication. No potable water is available along the inner canyon trails or at Havasupai Gardens.
