And that\u2019s not even mentioning the best part: Just before the end, hikers climb a ladder, crouch through a tunnel, and traverse a cliffside trail with the help of bolted chains.<\/p>\n<p>If you want an experience closer to your comfort zone\u2014or a \u201cday without scares,\u201d as Brooks calls it\u2014saddle up for a horseback ride with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" rel=\"sponsored\" data-afl-p=\"2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelalberta.com\/listings\/waterton-river-trail-rides-ltd-10494\">Waterton River Trail Rides<\/a>. In addition to the three lakes that make up the central chain of this underrated Alberta gem\u2014the Upper, Middle, and Lower Waterton lakes\u2014a patchwork of glacial lakes is scattered throughout the park\u2019s rugged terrain. Check out the 0.6-mile Akamina Lake Trail for a family-friendly hike, the 6.4-mile Bertha Lake Trail for a challenging but manageable affair, and any number of longer hikes, like the 12-mile <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" rel=\"sponsored\" data-afl-p=\"2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelalberta.com\/listings\/carthewalderson-trail-12908\">Carthew-Alderson Trail<\/a>, for a deeper wilderness experience.<\/p>\n<p>But if you\u2019re planning on jumping in, do it quickly.
