Read reviews of our other top picks below.

Joggers might be the most versatile pants in my closet. A good pair occupies the increasingly important middle ground between sweatpants, running tights, and technical outdoor pants. They’re comfortable enough to wear on the couch, presentable enough to leave the house in, and the best ones are technical enough to handle everything from a hard gym session to a trail run or a weekend camping trip.

That versatility also makes picking the right pair surprisingly complicated. A superlight running jogger is not the most comfortable when you’re sitting around a cold campsite, while a cozy fleece option can turn into a personal sauna five minutes into a run. Stretch, breathability, warmth, weather resistance, pocket placement, and even tiny details like zipper pulls can make the difference between a pair you occasionally wear and the one you live in.

Over the past couple of months, I’ve been testing the latter. I wore joggers while running, strength training, working, lounging, sleeping, and during 20 days of camping on the Northern California coast. The best performers weren’t necessarily the most technical. They were the pants that excelled at their intended purpose while also being comfortable and versatile enough that I kept reaching for them even after testing concluded.

Updated September 2026: We completely overhauled this guide with seven new picks for fall and winter, including our favorites for the gym, lounging, cold-weather running, hiking, and wet-weather days.

Best Joggers for Men: At a Glance

The Reviews

The midweight technical fabric of these Vuori joggers made them both extremely comfortable and flexible for workouts. (Photo: Joe Jackson)

Best Stretch and Comfort

Vuori Sunday Performance Jogger

Pros and Cons
+ Exceptionally soft next to skin
+ Superior stretch eliminated bunching
+ Equally at home lounging and working out
– Midweight fabric isn’t ideal for hot runs
– Less weather protection than outdoor-focused options

The Sunday Performance Jogger nailed the balance between genuine workout performance and the kind of softness I want when doing absolutely nothing. It was incredibly supple next to skin, finishing second in my sleep test, and—more importantly—never bunched up while I slept or moved through deep squats in the gym.

The secret is a midweight technical knit made from 88 percent recycled polyester and a substantial 12 percent elastane. Vuori builds four-way stretch into the fabric and gives the Sunday an athletic slim fit through the hips and thighs, which kept the pants close to my body while still moving well through squats, step-ups, and box jumps. The material is also moisture-wicking, making it more capable during workouts and light runs than its soft hand might suggest.

That versatility is the Sunday Performance Jogger’s biggest strength. Plenty of joggers are comfortable enough for the couch, and plenty are stretchy enough for the gym. This one does both exceptionally well.

The hemp-heavy fabric and lack of zippers on these Jungmaven joggers earned it the top spot for both lounging and sleeping. (Photo: Joe Jackson)

Best for Lounging

Jungmaven Yelapa Fleece Sweatpant

Pros and Cons
+ Most comfortable lounge pant tested
+ Cozy, natural next-to-skin feel
+ Gusseted crotch provides surprisingly good mobility
+ Stylish enough to wear beyond the campsite
– No elastane limits stretch during dynamic workouts

The Yelapa won my lounge test by a mile. It also won my sleep test. There are no zippered pockets or dangling zipper pulls to poke you in bed, and the hemp-heavy fabric delivered the most natural next-to-skin feel of anything I tested. On camping nights when temperatures dipped below 50 degrees, these were the pants I wanted to crawl into.

Jungmaven uses a substantial 9.6-ounce fleece made from 55 percent hemp and 45 percent organic cotton — a very different proposition from the technical polyester and nylon blends dominating this list. It feels cozy and substantial rather than slick and athletic, and the garment-dyeing process gives the fabric a soft, casual finish that made these my favorite-looking camp pants as well.

The Yelapa was surprisingly capable in the gym, too. A gusseted crotch adds useful freedom of movement and kept the pants from binding during squats and step-ups. But the fabric contains no elastane, so it can’t match the stretch of something like the Ten Thousand or Vuori during more dynamic movements—a tradeoff I’d gladly accept for lounging, sleeping, and hanging around camp. If my primary goal were to spend an entire weekend comfortably wearing one pair of pants, these are what I’d bring.

Ten Thousand’s joggers were by far the most athletic-feeling and performed well in the gym. (Photo: Joe Jackson)

Best for the Gym

Ten Thousand Session Pant

Pros and Cons
+ Exceptional stretch and mobility
+ Lightweight and highly breathable
+ Comfortable secure waistband
– Too lightweight for colder temperatures
– Performance-focused feel is less cozy for lounging

The Session Pant was the most athletic-feeling pant in this test. It was remarkably stretchy and breathable during squats, box jumps, and burpees, but what impressed me most was how little I thought about it while moving — the lightweight fabric never fought my legs during deep squats or high steps, and the waistband stayed exceptionally comfortable and secure throughout.

That performance makes sense given how aggressively Ten Thousand prioritizes low weight and mobility here. The Session Pant uses an extremely light 124-GSM fabric made from 86 percent polyester and 14 percent spandex, with four-way stretch, while laser-cut ventilation and a perforated waistband helped dump heat during my sweatiest workouts. That combination worked just as well on runs as it did in the gym—these felt impressively light on my legs during sustained climbs and were among my favorite pants for running.

There’s a tradeoff to that airiness: on a roughly 45-degree night while camping in Crescent City, I found myself wishing for something warmer. If you want one jogger primarily for high-output workouts, that’s a compromise I’d happily make.

These joggers from The North Face pack a surprising amount of warmth into a very lightweight package. (Photo: Joe Jackson)

Best Cold-Weather Pant

The North Face Future Fleece Pants

Pros and Cons
+ Excellent warmth-to-weight ratio
+ Gusseted crotch and articulated knees move naturally
+ Tapered shape works well for layering
– Warmer than necessary for mild-weather workouts
– More technical look than casual joggers

The biggest surprise of my testing was how much warmth The North Face managed to pack into such a lightweight pant. These pants proved exceptionally mobile during my gym test, but unlike most lightweight performance joggers, were also warm enough when temperatures dropped. In fact, this is the only pant from this test that I’m adding as a layer piece to my ski kit this winter.

The construction helps explain that unusual combination of lightweight but warm. The North Face uses targeted applications of Future Fleece and lighter Future Fleece LT to balance insulation and weight, rather than simply building the entire pant out of one heavy material. A lightweight stretch-woven overlay at the knees and seat adds protection in high-wear areas without turning the pants into bulky sweatpants.

Mobility is similarly built into the design. A crotch gusset, articulated knees, and shaped back yoke helped the pants disappear during squats, box jumps, and steep running climbs. The tapered lower legs are specifically designed to fit more easily beneath shells — that feature, combined with the warmth-to-weight ratio, is what makes these considerably more interesting to me than a conventional fleece sweatpant.

The water resistance, pockets, and mobility on the Patagonia Quandary joggers made these ideal for hiking. (Photo: Joe Jackson)

Best for Hiking

Patagonia Quandary Joggers

Pros and Cons
+ Impressive water resistance
+ Comfortable during steep climbs and gym workouts
+ Hiking-specific pockets and features
– Not as stretchy as gym-focused joggers
– More hiking pant than cozy sweatpant

Yes, any pants become hiking pants if you hike in them. But Patagonia added enough trail-specific details to the Quandary Joggers to make them notably better suited to long outdoor days. I particularly appreciated this while camping in Crescent City, where I could sleep in them, wake up, and head directly out to explore the beaches without changing.

Their weather resistance was particularly impressive — drizzle beaded off the pants one morning after I’d comfortably slept in them the night before. Patagonia builds the Quandary from a light 4.4-ounce stretch-woven fabric of 96 percent NetPlus postconsumer recycled nylon and 4 percent spandex, then adds a durable water-repellent finish made without intentionally added PFAS.

Despite being more hiking-oriented than most of the joggers here, they had plenty of athletic range. I took them on a three-mile run that climbed a brutal 1,200 vertical feet, and they moved well enough that I never wished I were wearing dedicated running pants. Articulation at the calves helped with mobility, while an elasticized waistband with an external drawcord kept them secure. The trail details become more useful as adventures get longer: two rear pockets, a zippered thigh pocket, and even a reinforced carabiner loop were ideal for long trail days. The result is essentially a legitimate hiking pant in jogger form.

The name is not misleading—these warm joggers became my go-to for sleeping and hanging around camp after dark. (Photo: Joe Jackson)

Best for Cold-Weather Running

Bandit Superwarm Run Pant

Pros and Cons
+ Excellent mobility despite substantial construction
+ DWR adds protection in wet conditions
+ Comfortable enough for cold-weather lounging and sleeping
– Overkill for milder temps

Bandit didn’t overpromise when it named these the Superwarm Run Pant. They were easily among the warmest performance pants I tested and quickly became my go-to for sleeping and hanging around camp once temperatures dropped below 50 degrees. What surprised me was that all that warmth didn’t turn them into one-dimensional winter sweatpants.

They delivered excellent running performance on steep climbs and easily held their own during squats, box jumps, step-ups, and burpees in the gym. Bandit accomplished that by combining two different fabrics rather than simply making the entire pant thick: ultra-brushed stretch-woven material covers the front and back of the body for warmth and protection, while brushed compression-knit sections maintain freedom of movement.

The fabric blend itself is 57 percent polyamide, 28 percent polyester, and 15 percent elastane, which helps explain why such a substantial pant could still move so well. Hollow yarns in the compression knit are designed not to absorb water, while a DWR finish on the stretch-woven material provided protection from drizzle and generally wet mornings on the Northern California coast. For mild conditions, all that insulation is overkill.

These Nike joggers offer a water-repelling fabric and an internal phone pocket with a moisture barrier. (Photo: Joe Jackson)

Best for Wet Weather

Nike Stride Repel Woven Running Pants

Pros and Cons
+ Water resistant
+ Lightweight and comfortable while running
+ Mesh behind knees dumps heat
+ Three zippered pockets provide excellent storage
– More running-specific than lifestyle-oriented
– Woven fabric isn’t as soft as others

I accidentally gave the Nike Stride Repel pants a far more aggressive water-resistance test than I’d planned. While camping, I dumped an entire two-gallon dishwashing station on myself while wearing them. Instead of soaking through, the water beaded on the DWR-treated fabric and I was able to brush most of it off.

The lightweight body fabric is 93 percent nylon and 7 percent spandex, while stretchier panels use 91 percent nylon and 9 percent spandex—enough give to keep the pants moving comfortably during running and gym work without making them feel like tights.

Nike also places mesh vents behind the knees to let heat and moisture escape, an important detail in a pant designed to provide weather protection without becoming a sauna during a run. Three zippered pockets add legitimate running utility, and the rear phone pocket even incorporates an internal moisture barrier. (Photo: Joe Jackson)

How We Tested the Best Joggers for Men

I put these joggers through a broad range of real-world tests. I took each pair on at least two runs lasting 45 minutes or longer with a minimum of 500 feet of elevation gain to see how well they moved through sustained effort. I also put each through a workout in my home gym that included squats, box step-ups, box jumps, and burpees—movements specifically chosen to expose restrictive fabrics, awkward cuts, and waistbands that don’t stay put.

Comfort and versatility were just as important. I wore each pair for a full week in everyday life, taking notes on how they felt while working, lounging, and moving around town. I also slept at least two nights in every pair. As a light and picky sleeper, I’ve found sleeping in pants to be one of the best ways to expose subtle comfort issues that might not show up during everyday activities. Finally, I brought all of these joggers along for 20 days of camping in Crescent City, California, where cool temperatures, drizzle, campsite chores, and long stretches of hanging around camp helped me gauge how well they transitioned from home and gym use to the outdoors.

Source link

Published September 28, 2026 11:00AM Overview: After two months of testing joggers through gym sessions, trail runs, and 20 days of coastal camping, the Vuori Sunday Performance Jogger stood out as the best overall pick.
