A <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skyscanner.com\/travel-trends\">Skyscanner 2026 travel trends report<\/a> shows that the generation consciously made financial sacrifices for their most recent vacation. More than half of the respondents (52%) said they ate out less and 40% said they cut back on haircuts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Price, founder of <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/pricelesstay.com\/\">Priceless Tay<\/a>, a personal finance education and coaching platform, told Fox Business that Gen Z is \u201creorganizing the American Dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t forgotten about it,\u201d she explained. \u201cSo back in my parents\u2019 generation, it was work, get married, have children, get a house, retire, then go and travel the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Price said that owning a house now feels outside of the realm of possibility and is \u201cout of touch\u201d with Gen Z\u2019s reality. Instead, the generation is focused on achieving other, more immediately attainable goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re beginning to travel a lot more now,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re just changing that reality for us.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-moving-beyond-homeownership\">Moving beyond homeownership<\/h2>\n<p>Price mentioned that Gen Z is thinking about homeownership in a \u201cvery strategic way.\u201d Instead of buying a home, this generation is taking their savings and investing the funds, growing them over time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith investing apps now, we have so much accessibility in different ways to build wealth,\u201d Price said. \u201cGoing back to homeownership, that was a principal way previous generations were able to create wealth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She mentioned that now, Gen Z is looking at creating wealth by investing in the stock market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s amazing because this is one way that we\u2019re able to accelerate our wealth-building opportunities,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gen Z is also focused on career growth. Those who live in rural areas can easily move to cities for work without worrying about making mortgage payments on a house.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-new-american-dream\">A new American Dream<\/h2>\n<p>Americans now expect to be about 40 when they purchase their first home, compared with 28 in the early 1990s, according to data cited earlier this year by <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/09\/21\/gen-z-millennials-american-dream-digital-nomads\/\"><em>Fortune<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More than half of non-homeowners said in the data that buying a house feels unattainable. Even renters under 40 earning six-figure salaries said they were less confident about becoming homeowners than they were five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Some Americans are turning to travel as an alternative to a grounded, home-owning version of stability that feels out of reach. They are becoming digital nomads, traveling while earning money through remote work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An estimated <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mbopartners.com\/state-of-independence\/digital-nomads\">18.5 million Americans<\/a> identify as digital nomads, up from 7.3 million in 2019, according to workforce consulting firm MBO Partners.
