Pop star Zara Larsson is the internet\u2019s newest \u201cit\u201d girl. After a wave of viral hits, including her latest album\u2019s title track, \u201cMidnight Sun,\u201d and her feature on PinkPantheress\u2019s \u201cStateside\u201d remix, the Swedish singer cemented herself as the next big thing in pop music.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
But fame doesn\u2019t come without controversy, as Larsson learned when she revealed to her fan base that she uses generative AI.<\/p>\n
The discourse began when Larsson posted about watching AI-generated content on TikTok. She first reposted an image from the account Ai Fruit Stories<\/a>, a page posting AI animations of\u2014you guessed it\u2014drama between anthropomorphic foods.\u00a0<\/p>\n Larsson then posted a selfie with the caption: \u201cSorry I can\u2019t hang out today, I gotta see what\u2019s happening with choclatina and strawberto,\u201d referring to that page\u2019s main storyline: a chocolate bar named Chocolatina who\u2019s seducing a strawberry named Strawberto.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The situation may sound silly but it riled up Larsson\u2019s fandom, who called her out for apparently supporting generative AI despite its harmful environmental impact, as well as for the damage so-called \u201cAI slop\u201d can do to creative industries.<\/p>\n
