Forged in the Dolomites, Salewa’s Pedroc 2 sets you free on trails everywhere

When the team at Salewa decided to make shoes that would be perfect for exploring their backyard—the Italian Dolomites—they probably didn’t know that they were also making shoes the whole world would love. But the new Pedroc 2, made for moving fast and free in Italy’s alpine wonderland, turns out to be wildly effective for just about any foot travel, on all kinds of terrain.

Why are the Dolomites such a great place to develop a fast-and-light shoe? Because the area’s hut-to-hut travel makes for light packs and the scenery invites you to gobble up miles on monster days. That puts a premium on freedom of movement, and Salewa, based in the South Tyrol town of Bolzano, is exporting this philosophy worldwide with the Pedroc 2. It’s the do-it-all shoe you’ll reach for whether your trail window is three hours or three days or three weeks.

The Pedroc 2 achieves maximum versatility by prioritizing low weight and protection. At 12.37 ounces per shoe, it’s light enough for quick-moving days on backyard trails, yet it’s burly enough to handle rocky miles, uneven terrain, and occasional off-trail detours—even with a light overnight pack. A wide fit gives toes room to spread out naturally, something you’ll especially appreciate later in the day when feet swell and most shoes start to feel restrictive.

How does it enhance freedom of movement? A cushioned EVA midsole protects from hard impact while a rockered design encourages forward motion. A 10mm drop gives your stride a smooth, rolling character that keeps you stepping efficiently without overthinking it. Traction is critical for this kind of movement, and the Pedroc 2 delivers, with directional lugs that deliver confident grip across a mix of surfaces, from loose dirt to slabby, wet rock.

Up top, a custom mesh upper made from 100% recycled three yarn polyester jacquard balances breathability with durability and protection. Subtle reinforcements in the toe and heel caps add durability without bulk, and reflective details in the styling keep you visible when your hike starts before sunrise or unexpectedly ends after dark.

At its best, hiking in the Dolomites—and everywhere—is about freedom. That could mean chasing big miles or dashing out at sunset for the best view—freedom is yours to define. And with the Pedroc 2, it’s easier than ever to achieve.
