Future technology background glowing futuristic globe HUD, digital data flowing and network structure. Innovation, AI and cybersecurity concepts.gettyThe most significant conflicts of the future will take place over invisible networks of code, data, and algorithms rather than over land, sea, or air. In addition to spurring innovation, the convergence of AI, quantum computing, 5G, and the Internet of Things is completely reinventing security.A dynamic, borderless ecosystem has replaced what was once perimeter-based defense. Every linked gadget in this new world presents a risk as well as an opportunity. Every algorithm has the potential to be a weapon as well as…
The European Union accused Meta on Wednesday of failing to stop underage users from accessing Facebook and Instagram, in violation of the bloc’s tough digital rules that require social media sites to protect minors. The EU’s executive branch said Meta Platforms lacked effective measures to prevent children younger than 13 from signing up, and that it was not doing enough to identify and remove children after they had opened accounts.Meta’s own minimum age to open an account on Facebook or Instagram is 13.The problem is not just that children are getting access. The European Commission said Meta is also inadequately assessing…
It’s hard to imagine now, but Elon Musk and Sam Altman were once happy co-workers. The power duo co-founded OpenAI in 2015 to build artificial intelligence safely. Now they’re facing off in a bitter $134 billion lawsuit that went to trial this week. Here’s what the trial is all about: Musk left OpenAI’s board in 2018 and sued the company, Altman and president Greg Brockman in 2024, alleging they broke their commitment to keep the AI lab a nonprofit. Musk claims he was “assiduously manipulated” and “deceived” by promises to “chart a safer, more open course than profit-driven tech giants.”…
Updated April 29, 2026 07:00AMI’ve viewed some of the world’s most dramatic landscapes from the passenger seat of a helicopter: Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Everest Base Camp, the Grand Canyon, South Africa’s Wild Coast, the peaks of Denali in Alaska and Mount Aspiring in New Zealand. But nothing was as thrilling as the doors-off flight I took over Kauai with tour company Jack Harter Helicopters in 2018.Kauai’s landscapes—made famous by Jurassic Park— are awe-inducing when viewed from land and even sea. But from the air they take on a whole new level of grandeur. As we flew over the island’s cinematic…

Oil prices surged, markets tightened. Governments scrambled to assess exposure.Roughly a quarter of global seaborne oil trade passes through this narrow corridor. Any disruption…
AI agents have already started buying on behalf of customers. Yet most merchants still lack the infrastructure to serve them. That disconnect sits at the center of PayPal’s first U.S. Agentic Commerce Pulse Survey, based on responses from 498 decision-makers across small businesses, mid-market firms, and large enterprises.Nearly 95% of merchants report that they can already track or observe traffic originating from AI agents, including web crawling from systems like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. But only about one in five have structured their product catalogs in machine-readable formats that those same agents can actually interpret and act on in real…
The Cache map has returned to Counter-StrikeCredit: Valve One of the most iconic maps in Counter-Strike history has made its return to the series, with a new version of Cache being added to Counter-Strike 2 in the latest patch. Launched last night, the new version of Cache brings the iconic map into CS2 for the first time, or at least officially from Valve. The Miami Grand Prix, hosted at the Hard Rock Stadium’s 3.3-mile Miami International Autodrome, will look and feel different this year. In its fifth year, the race will spotlight the city with new experiences, activations like the MSC Yacht Club, and new sight lines for spectators. While relatively new to Formula 1’s 24 Grand Prix race season, the Miami GP’s agreement to serve as a host city until 2041 is an indicator that F1 is focused on investing in the U.S. market. It’s a big departure from F1’s history. “ We used to turn up in the U.S., race, and [then] expect everyone…
Published April 29, 2026 03:00AMThe pontoons of our seaplane settled onto Lake Superior with a gentle, satisfying splash. With too little planning and a lot of effort, our team of three arrived on the southwestern shore of the third least-visited national park in the United States, Isle Royale. Though the other two—Gates of Arctic and American Samoa—are just as remote, this site, on the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior, is technically more accessible. Isle Royale National Park is only open to the public only from mid-April through mid-October, due to the frigid temperatures (10 to 20 degrees…
Leveraging generative AI and LLMs to make predictions about the path and outcome of undertaking mental health therapy.gettyIn today’s column, I examine the fascinating possibility that we might be able to use generative AI and large language models (LLMs) to predict the psychotherapeutic success or failure for people opting to undertake mental health therapy. Here’s the deal. A person decides to get mental health support and makes use of therapy accordingly. A vexing question that has existed since the beginning of psychotherapy is whether the eventual outcome can be predicted. The person might successfully complete therapy and be considered good…
