In Breckenridge, explore a small town with a big summer menu of arts, history, alpine adventure, and elevated food and drink

Nothing beats a summer escape to the mountains. Breckenridge, Colorado, is an instant base camp for outdoor adventures, of course, as well as rich history, inspired artists, friendly locals, and delicious food. It also has something that’s hard to find: the feeling of true immersion in the mountains. Once you’re here, you’ve got all you need. There’s nowhere you have to be but wherever your feet take you, enjoying the best of mountain town life wherever you go.

    Nature at Your Doorstep

Breckenridge invites you to answer the call of the trails whenever you hear it. There are plenty of trailheads just outside downtown and off the Breck Free Ride bus line that offer quick and easy escapes. So don’t be surprised when your morning walk turns into a quick hike or when an all-day summit mission ends on Main Street.

Explore on two wheels. There are just as many mountain biking and multiuse trails as there are hiking paths, including the lift-accessible biking terrain at Breckenridge Resort. And if you prefer pavement over dirt, the Summit County Recreational Pathway provides more than 50 miles of scenic riding.

    Living History

In Breckenridge, history is alive in creaky floorboards and open spaces alike. The self-guided outdoor exhibit at High Line Railroad Park is a chance to take in some railroad history (and nearby, see the town’s famous troll) before setting out on a hike, ride, or drive along Boreas Pass Road. This 22-mile dirt road follows the old railroad line into the town of Como, passing historic sites like Bakers Tank and the old Boreas Station. Other ways to explore the area’s history include the Washington Mine for a self-guided tour at a reconstructed mine site, free museums, and interactive history lessons with a tour of Breck’s historic saloons or a guided gold-panning experience.

    Public Art and Community Classes

If the mountains towering over town show what nature can create, the Breckenridge Public Art Tour shows what people can create when nature inspires them. From the Arts District to the edge of the forest, you can see Ullr (the Norse god of skiing), Isak Heartstone the troll, and all manner of mountain-inspired sculptures and artwork.

Feeling inspired to create your own art? Breck Create offers weekly creative workshops that are as unique as the work they inspire. Learn how to blow glass, make upcycled art, and decorate your own mountain flower mosaics.

    Elevated Eats

Like the artists of the area, the chefs of Breckenridge use their surroundings to bring out the best in their work, largely relying on fresh, natural ingredients to create quality meals for both visitors and locals. Nowhere exemplifies this craftsmanship like Rootstalk, founded by James Beard Award-winning Chef Matt Vawter. It’s located just off Main Street in a historic Victorian house surrounded by aspen trees, a fitting representation of the place itself—familiar comforts, elevated.

And that’s just one of the great farm-to-table options—you’ll need more than one night out to sample all of Breckenridge’s great food. Tin Plate offers artisan pizzas made with vibrant local ingredients, while Bird and Cow provides classic American eats with Breckenridge Brewery beer on tap. There are also plenty of family-friendly spots, since with restaurants, like everything else, Breckenridge really does have it all.

Breckenridge offers authentic mountain town charm, world-class outdoor adventure, vibrant town life, and a welcoming spirit for visitors year-round.
