Washington. D.C., might not be hosting a World Cup match this year, but that doesn’t mean it’s not planning to throw a massive party. The National Mall is set to be the grounds for an official FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone, offering match viewing, interactive exhibits, family-friendly activations, cultural programing, food, and music. The Fan Zone will be open from June 11 through July 19, opening daily an hour before the first match and closing an hour after the last. While matches starting after 7 p.m. will not fit into the schedule, all Team USA games will air regardless…
The BoroughsCredit: NetflixBy the end of the first episode of Netflix’s new sci-fi series, The Boroughs, I thought to myself, “This is a really good TV show.” I binged the first half of the season in one evening, and would have kept watching if I could survive on zero hours of sleep. Then, in the second half, The Boroughs, which has the Duffer Brothers attached as executive producers, just . . . fizzled out. To put it very succinctly, this would have been a great Netflix movie. As a series, it’s much too long and meandering. The Boroughs is about a…
Would you let AI take the reins of your stock trading account? Robinhood is giving users the option. On Wednesday, the trading platform announced that it is launching “Agentic Trading” and the “Agentic Credit Card,” effectively letting users empower AI agents to make trades and credit card purchases on their behalf. Robinhood, which boasts nearly 27.6 million users, says agents can now carry out specific strategies based on an investor’s goals. While the user remains “in charge,” Robinhood says, agents will have the ability to execute trades without direct user input. For now, the new feature only allows for equities…
Published May 27, 2026 03:15AMAt last summer’s Chicago River Swim, the first in a century in that iconic waterway of stunning skyscrapers and ornamented drawbridges, swimmers were captivated by one of the joys of urban swimming: a unique perspective on the city, from the water.“There were guys who said, ‘I came to be competitive and I ended up sightseeing,’” says founder and organizer Doug McConnell. From Chicago to New York, Baltimore to Portland, swimmers across America are taking to urban waterways, expanding public access to rivers and harbors through open water swim races, splash parties off piers, permanent swimming beaches,…
When a new car’s design is said to be “divisive”, that means normal people hate it. Italian luxury sports car maker Ferrari , probably correctly, assumes that not many normal people have $650,000 available to buy its new Luce electric car, so success is likely despite the media’s “divisive” verdict.Investors didn’t like the initial vibes generated by the Luce either, as Ferrari unveiled its first electric vehicle on Tuesday. The shares lost up to 8% on the first day. The shares steadied on Wednesday, gaining 0.28% at €284.85, according to Reuters.Analysts thought the initial negativity was overdone, and that the…

Cybercriminals have been keeping busy. The 2025 Internet Crime Report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) shows a continued rise in internet crime complaints, with officials receiving more than 3,000 per day and the annual total surpassing 1 million for the first time. (And that figure is likely far below the actual total, since many victims never report these crimes.) Reported losses tied to online criminal activity topped $20 billion last year, despite federal officials’ efforts to combat it. That’s more than $4 billion higher than the 2024 total and more than double the amount reported just four years…
Published May 27, 2026 03:16AMWe begin with a story that by now feels overly familiar: A Black man went surfing and he got called the N-word. It was 2021. Twenty-four-year-old Justin “Brick” Howze was a beginner surfer then, still learning his way around the breaks at Manhattan Beach outside of Los Angeles when a white surfer unleashed a barrage of verbal abuse upon him and his friend, using the slur repeatedly, as the pair recalled in an Instagram live they posted shortly after. The reel went viral. Howze’s account gained 10,000 followers in just a few days. The friends organized a…
The Bravia 9 II hands on in action. Bravia 9 II on the right, original Bravia 9 on the left, and BVM-HX3110 mastering monitor in the middle.Photo: John ArcherWhen Sony first unveiled its new “independent drive RGB LED TV” to a few lucky journalists (including myself) in Tokyo way back in March 2025, it was so early a prototype that it still had hundreds of bare wires sticking out of its back. Even then, though, more than six months before any rival brands (basically Hisense and Samsung) were able to rush their own ultra-expensive, super-sized takes on the technology to…
Updated May 27, 2026 09:48AMDoes anyone remember when mountain biking was a fringe sport? I do. Back in the day (call it the eighties), mountain bikers were borderline outlaws, riding forest trails on the sly and thumbing their noses at “the man.” Now, mountain biking isn’t just mainstream, it’s a way of life and an economic force. Don’t believe me? Visit one of the towns on this list, and you’ll see it’s centered around fat tires in one way or another. The criteria for this article were simple, and honestly, far more subjective than the factors I used to determine the…
