After a few months of job hunting, I drastically reduced my time on TikTok and Instagram. LinkedIn became my preferred social media app, less for entertainment and more for anything that looked like it might turn into a paycheck. A couple of weeks ago, I stepped away from the search and fired up Threads, hoping to find something lighter.I didn’t. Instead, I stumbled upon a job posting that was trending for all of the wrong reasons. The post sought a remote full-time creative strategist to join a Charlotte-based baby product retailer. The role sits at the content, branding, and social media crossroads, word to…
Soft Plastics Collector (left) and Organics Collector (right)Clear DropBased on the EPA’s last Wasted Food Report (which, sadly, hasn’t been updated since 2019), residential food waste equaled 25 million tons, with only 3% of that waste being composted. The rest was sent to landfills. The amount of plastic ending up in landfills was even worse, with the EPA estimating 27 million tons in 2018 alone, with a scant .001% being recycled. Obviously, American families have a waste problem. But the big question is, what can individuals do to make an impact on numbers that are seemingly inexorable?Granted, I’m biased, but…
Published April 27, 2026 09:58AMAs one of the fastest growing cities in the country, Charlotte already enjoys considerable buzz about its friendly charm and vibrant neighborhoods. Now it’s getting well-deserved love for its outdoor scene as well, with tranquil lakes, sinuous singletrack, and even whitewater rapids all within easy reach. Combine that with the Queen City’s signature take on Southern culture, plus four seasons of ideal weather, and you have the perfect year-round outdoor destination. Here’s what to expect. Technology tycoons Elon Musk and Sam Altman are poised to face off in a high-stakes trial revolving around the alleged betrayal, deceit and unbridled ambition that blurred the bickering billionaires’ once-shared vision for the development of artificial intelligence. The trial, which is scheduled to begin Monday with jury selection, centers on the 2015 birth of ChatGPT maker OpenAI as a nonprofit startup primarily funded by Musk before evolving into a capitalistic venture now valued at $852 billion. The trial’s outcome could sway the balance of power in AI — breakthrough technology that is increasingly being feared as a potential job killer and…
I have repeatedly said that Apple TV is one of the best streaming services right now, both because of its (at least somewhat lower) price (no ad tier) and its excellent batting average. Now, it’s hit another home run.Compared to the total amount of Apple TV shows, which is far less than something like Netflix, the chance of those shows being good is very, very high. That’s now true of what is currently only the third 100% Rotten Tomatoes-scored show on the service; however, loads of others are in the high 90s, and must-watch in their own right. We’re talking…
A new cafe in Stockholm just opened its doors and, though there’s a human behind the counter making drinks and light bites, an AI manager is calling the shots. Andon Cafe is the latest autonomous organization experiment run by AI research company Andon Labs, tasking its AI to sell coffee and manage European bureaucracy. The result? Curious customers, $1,000 in sales in four days, and a lot of surplus supplies. A viral experiment Like the company’s AI-run retail experiment in San Francisco, Andon Labs secured a lease in Stockholm on a quaint corner coffee shop, then handed it over to…
Before Scott Kirby became CEO of United Airlines, he was banned from blackjack tables across Las Vegas for counting cards. Now he’s applied that same risk-taking to one of the biggest bets in the airline industry. When Kirby took over United in 2020, he wagered that customers would pay more for a better flying experience. The industry had long believed air travel was a commodity where only price and schedule mattered. Kirby disagreed. He ordered 270 new planes from Boeing and Airbus, reinstalled seatback screens that rivals had ripped out, struck a deal with Starlink for high-speed Wi-Fi and dumped…
Long-haul travelers have tried every jet lag fix in the book, from skipping coffee to forcing themselves into daylight, but many still lose precious days to exhaustion after landing. That is when we should look more closely to circadian science. I recently attended a webinar organized by the Global Wellness Summit that brought together a former astronaut, a United Airlines executive, a Wimbledon champion professional athlete, the founder of a jet lag app rooted in NASA’s circadian research and a circadian scientist to discuss how to manage our internal clocks successfully.Jet Lag Starts When The Internal Is Clock Out Of…
Allie K. Miller, one of the most followed voices in the AI industry, says that “by the time you wake up, your AI should have already been working for you for hours.” Formerly the global head of machine learning for startups and venture capital at Amazon Web Services, Miller is among the busiest AI consultants and influencers in the industry, with more than 1.6 million followers on LinkedIn alone. Through her company Open Machine, she advises enterprises and business leaders—including those at OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Warner Bros. Discovery—on how to adopt AI.
