Oura’s Latest Update Provides Deeper Insights Into Women’s Health

Cycle Insights, Menopause Symptom tracking and more get the highlight in this latest update

    Oura

Oura has been helping women track their reproductive health and how it affects their overall wellbeing for a while, steadily improving their algorithm as they worked with real (anonymized) data from actual members.

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Oura is unveiling two major women’s health initiatives, one focused on reproductive health and cycle prediction, the other on perimenopause and menopause.

    Hormonal Birth Control Support

Support for hormonal birth control means better cycle tracking

    Oura

Hormonal Birth Control is now tracked as part of Oura’s improved Cycle Insights algorithm. You can track over 20 contraceptive combinations (such as pills, patches, IUDs, and implants) and see how your chosen form of birth control affects your temperature, sleep, and recovery.

The Oura app also lets you track symptoms like bleeding to establish patterns over time (and when symptoms fall outside of their normal patterns). It helps those taking hormonal birth control get better insight into how those hormones are affecting how well they rest and recover.

This is all stacked on top of their vastly improved cycle tracking algorithm. Previously, it took 60 days of continuous Oura tracking to begin predicting a woman’s cycle. But now, if you know when your last cycle began, Oura can predict when your next cycle will start as soon as after a single night of tracking.

That update greatly improved the accuracy of predictions as well, with a 28% improvement for typical cycles and 21% improvement for those with irregular cycles. Ovulation detection is better too with 45% more accurate detection overall for those with regular cycles.

All of it adds up to a massive amount of accurate, personalized data that women can use to track their cycles.

    Menopause Tracking Improvements

See how your symptoms are affecting your health over time

    Oura

Perimenopause is barely understood and often stigmatized. It also can manifest in a variety of ways with physical and mental symptoms. Reducing the impact of those symptoms can be handled in many ways as well. While lifestyle changes may be enough for some, other women find relief through hormonal therapy.

But what benefits every person going through perimenopause and menopause is data, and that’s where Oura comes in.

With this latest update, Oura is introducing the Menopause Impact Scale. This follows on extensive research the company has done into perimenopause and menopause. In 2024, Oura published the Perimenopause Report, containing the analysis of aggregated, anonymized data from over 100,000 female Oura members over the course of a year.

Their new Menopause Insights feature gives women a roadmap, that not only validates their symptoms, but personalizes the impact those symptoms have on each individual. The new Menopause Impact Scale takes into account 22 symptoms and tracks their severity of impact, giving women a clearer picture of how their personal biometrics are affected.

Oura combines that personal symptom tracking with data-driven insight on the user’s physiological trends, letting them see how their symptoms are impacting things like HRV and sleep disturbances. Tracking symptoms over time gives a clearer picture of how their bodies are changing and, more importantly, how their treatments affect those symptoms. When you have a better idea of what works and what doesn’t, you can choose the option that’s most effective for you.

How Do You Get The Upgrades?

These features started rolling out on Wednesday, May 6th for Oura members with generation 4 and 3 devices. If you haven’t seen an update yet, pop your ring on the charger to top it off. Chances are, it’s just waiting for a full battery.

Oura also announced a partnership with Twentyeight Health, connecting members and with licensed providers that can help them find the birth control that’s right for them, even providing prescriptions when needed.

All of this combines to strengthen Oura’s position as a leader in women’s health, giving women deeper understanding and better tracking of their cycles and how those cycles affect their overall health and wellness.

It doesn’t hurt that Oura is still one of the most accurate, nicest looking smart rings in the game. After all, a health tracker that you won’t wear won’t give you any data at all. Pair that with the new charging case for the Oura Ring 4 and you can be sure that your ring will always be ready, no matter where you go.

Find out more about Oura’s latest health updates and check out their rings on the Oura website.
