Apple has just released iOS 26.5, but talk is already moving to iOS 27, which will be announced at the iPhone maker’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Some of the headline iOS 27 features include AI-assisted updates to the Siri voice assistant and changes to the unpopular Liquid Glass interface.

Like all its predecessors, iOS 27 will include new features that boost iPhone privacy and security.

The biggest iOS 27 focus will be on Siri, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The evidence for this is hidden in the WWDC 2026 logo, he thinks.

As part of the iOS 27 Siri overhaul, there will be a separate Siri app and a new chatbot-style interface, according to reports.

Meanwhile, iOS 27 will allow Apple users to choose between multiple AI models, including those from Google and Anthropic — a capability it is calling Extensions, writes 9to5Mac.

If and when this does happen, it is likely that the privacy policies of the third party providers will apply — as it did when Apple partnered with ChatGPT maker OpenAI.

Private Apple Intelligence In iOS 27

Apple Intelligence features will be a key part of iOS 27, with deep Siri integration across apps and a move towards Visual Intelligence, since the iPhone maker is working on wearable devices to enhance this feature, according to Apple-focused site MacRumors.

Apple will continue to push its privacy message for AI — data is processed on the device as much as possible, rather than in the cloud. When the cloud is used, Apple has its Private Cloud Compute, its privacy-first infrastructure offering better privacy and security.

Apple’s iOS 27 will also include a Wallet app feature to scan paper tickets and passes and convert these to digital. For this reason, it is thought iOS 27 will enhance wallet scanning security.

Meanwhile, the improved Visual Intelligence will be used for scanning text and nutrition labels without external data sharing, while Apple will be more transparent about Siri data use.

More concrete details about Apple’s iOS 27 are coming soon, with announcements about to come thick and fast at WWDC starting 8 June.

While the iPhone maker needs to catch up on AI, user data is at the center of many features from rivals. Apple would be wise to ensure iOS 27 continues its record of keeping iPhone users safe and private.
