‘Virtua Fighter Crossroads’ Looks To Show A More Lived-In World

‘Virtua Fighter Crossroads’ is adding a lot more narrative and world building to the game.

    Sega

Following the reveal of a new Virtua Fighter game last Summer, the game has been finally announced as Virtua Fighter Crossroads, and it looks great.

The first big takeaway in the game’s new trailer (shown below) is that the story and the world between fights will be more fleshed out.

Considering the series’ arcade heritage, most of the story in that kind of context would have been somewhat redundant.

However, this time around, the story and how you progress through the world seem to be as important as the fights themselves.

From sections of your character running through the streets parkour-style, to extended story cutscenes, this all looks more narrative-driven than before, and I’m all for that.

It also seems that David Hayter is on board for this game as a writer, specifically handling “world development”.

While many know him for his voice acting work, as Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games, Hayter is also an extremely capable writer. Having worked on movies like the original X-Men in the past.

Not to mention seeing the return of Pai Chan is rather wonderful.

Naturally, the fights themselves look wonderful, and I’m expecting the combat mechanics to be as polished as any prior numbered entry.

Talking of numbered entries, the trailer revealed the logo with the “VI” of Virtua Fighter being in a different color, which is nice as that would align with the fact that this is indeed the sixth iteration of the series.

Anyway, having recently interviewed Toshihiro Nakaya about his stewardship of the Virtua Fighter series, I am really looking forward to seeing how Virtua Fighter Crossroads will turn out.
