Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, that’s who — well kind of. While the launch of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is almost a full month before Grand Theft Auto 6, CODMW4 is still dropping about as close to GTA 6 as any other title.
That said, the release date is a bit earlier than the original Modern Warfare trilogy, which all launched in November. That’s very likely to give CODMW4 at least three weeks of alone time before GTA 6 takes over the planet.

The full platform list runs PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC across Battle.net, Xbox on PC and Steam, and a native Switch 2 build from Digital Legends, while PS4 and Xbox One are left behind entirely.
It is the first new Call of Duty on a Nintendo platform in over a decade, joining other 2026 Switch 2 arrivals like LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
The October 23 date also lands well ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6 and its November 19 arrival, giving Infinity Ward a clear runway before the year’s biggest release.

Pre-orders are already live and there is a loyalty discount for any CoD player with a previous version from 2019 or later on the same platform account. Of course, that does nothing for Switch players, but hey, at least they’re getting the game this time.
The confirmed perk is 10% off the Vault Edition for owners of a 2019-or-later Call of Duty, with Warzone integration following as part of Season 1 shortly after launch. Beyond that, expect the usual tiered editions with early access and cosmetic bonuses, a rollout that mirrors recent big releases like 007: First Light and Madden 27.
What Is The Modern Warfare 4 Campaign About?
Modern Warfare campaigns are almost always solid, but they low-key give me the creeps because of how closely it can mirror real-life situations and international relationships. As it is, this one looks about as amazing as you might expect.
This one centers on a North Korean invasion of South Korea, with Private Park, a young South Korean soldier, thrown into live combat for the first time in a classic zero-to-hero arc. A vengeful Captain Price returns, operating off the grid and outside official command as his personal mission collides with the forces behind the invasion.
True to the franchise, the action still globe-trots, spanning trench warfare in Korea, close quarters in New York, high-speed chases in Paris and SAS night raids in Mumbai.
What’s New In Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer And DMZ?
Depending on who you ask, the biggest new gameplay concepts are the 12 new maps, the Kill Block, refined hipfire or the sandbox theme that allows for crafting and weapon progression.
A large piece of multiplayer is built around a “Ballistic Authority” stack that removes bloom from hipfire for more predictable shots, paired with grounded movement built for control.
The launch slate includes the new 6v6 maps plus dedicated Gunfight and Big War maps, along with the Kill Block, a dynamic battleground with countless of round-to-round configurations.
The bigger shift is DMZ, which graduates from its beta into a co-equal pillar. Infinity Ward is pitching it as a living extraction sandbox with a Forward Operating Base, a 3D-printer crafting station and its own separate progression.
That could be the real differentiator between this version, previous iterations and all other first-person war game shooters.
