In Episode 3, the athletes get to know Silverton Mountain from all angles. This southern Colorado mountain is renowned among backcountry skiers for its wild, technical terrain and unruly weather. It’s the ultimate alpine setting to help determine the Ultimate Mountain Athlete.
The episode starts with a sheer test of endurance, as the athletes complete the first ski mountaineering event: a lung-busting climb. Who can push through the pain—and thin air—to finish first? Then it’s down, down, down in a race of speed, style, and nerve.
The only thing certain: watching these athletes go head-to-head, it’s easy to see why Outside and Toyota Trucks teamed up to launch this unprecedented competition. What’s not easy to see is who will prevail and be crowned Ultimate Mountain Athlete. With eight elite athletes—four male and four female—vying for $40,000 in prize money, every point counts.
