Mountain biking, the final discipline in the competition, gets under way and we see who has the ultimate speed, endurance, skill, and style on two wheels

    Published July 14, 2026 10:32AM

With the initial rock climbing and ski mountaineering events wrapped up, the leader board is starting to take shape. But there’s one more discipline to go, and it will definitely shake things up. In Episode 5, the athletes embark on the mountain biking events and they’ll have to calibrate what it takes to win it all with what it takes to stay out of the hospital.

It’s not enough to be good at one sport, or even one dimension of a sport, if you want to be crowned Ultimate Mountain Athlete. That’s why Outside created the unprecedented competition in collaboration with Toyota Trucks—to find out who could put it all together.

The biking competition includes three events, and in this episode we see the first two as the athletes hit the Flow and Downhill courses. That’s two-wheel magic and two-wheel mayhem as eight athletes—four men and four women—ride with their eye on the prize.

Who will take home the cash? After the first two mountain biking events, we’re a lot closer to finding out.
