Here comes winter, which means it’s time to make sure you have a kit to match. Like all fans of the fourth season, you’re tuning your equipment, getting your boots fitted, and figuring out your layering system for the weather ahead.
New from CAMEL, a U.S.-based brand rooted in Italian craftsmanship with more than 60 years of history behind it, the Volcanic Shell Pro 3-in-1 was made to provide versatile, reliable protection in the cold and wet. Its modular design features a down jacket and waterproof shell that can be worn on their own or together to create a winter-busting system combining the warmth of the puffy jacket with the bomber protection of the exterior shell.
Puffy Jacket for Breathable Warmth
The system’s warmth starts with the puffy jacket, made with 90 percent high-loft goose down. It provides superior heat retention for subzero camp conditions and extreme cold-weather protection and down naturally allows breathability for mellow, cold-weather hikes. That’s not the end of the story when it comes to breathable warmth. The designers at CAMEL understand that nothing is worse than sweating inside your jacket, then having that sweat freeze and create an ice-pack effect on your body. They have an answer: The Volcanic’s outer shell has a breathability rating of ≥9000g/(㎡·24h), which means that it rapidly vents sweat during steep, high-output climbs and hikes, keeping you dry from the inside out and preventing post-activity chills.
The goose down liner of the Volcanic Shell Pro 3-in-1 is a simple, lightweight puffy jacket with elastic cuffs and a high-cut neck. A clean design keeps the weight down and the cut streamlined.
Waterproof Shell for Bomber Protection
The exterior layer of the Volcanic Shell Pro 3-in-1 is a fully seam-sealed shell with a waterproof rating of 22,000+ mmH20. Translation: It will keep you dry in the wettest conditions, from continuous torrential rain to heavy blizzards. What’s more, CAMEL achieved the waterproof rating without utilizing a harsh fluorine chemical process. (Fluorine is a “forever chemical” that resists breakdown and builds up in ecosystems and living organisms.) High-performance waterproofing that’s better for the environment and human health? More good news.
The details match the technology: A zippered closure with a protective storm flap, wrist cuffs with Velcro closure, a large hood, and a high-cut neck collar with a cinch cord all work together to ensure weather protection. Two drop-in pockets with large flaps, two zippered pockets, and a cinch cord at the waist add everyday function.
Combined System for Total Comfort
The beauty of an integrated system like this is the way the two pieces work seamlessly together. While the puffy and waterproof layers of the Volcanic Shell Pro 3-in-1 can be worn on their own, zipping the liner into the shell creates a warm and protective jacket for the coldest, wettest, sloppiest of winter days.
Bottom line: This versatile system is ready for anything.
CAMEL is a specialized outdoor brand focused on high performance, high-tech parameters, and high protection. Engineered for climbing and outdoor adventures, CAMEL gear blends deep lifestyle insights with exceptional protective functionality.
