Sales are booming for Novo Nordisk’s new weight loss pill. In its first earnings report since the release of an alternative to its hit GLP-1 shot, Novo Nordisk’s outlook is looking a bit brighter. The company, which now makes Wegovy in pill form, raised its guidance for the year in light of the first quarter’s success. Novo reported 1.3 million prescriptions for its weight loss pill, which is now available in the U.S., in the first quarter of 2026. The drugmaker plans to launch the pill outside of the U.S. in the second half of the year, expanding the new…
For active summer travel, I need fancy sweats that keep up with me while staying stylish. These are my favorites. (Photo: Lisa Jhung)Published May 6, 2026 12:39PMWhen I’m travelling in a plane, train, or automobile, the last thing I want to be wearing is a stiff pair of jeans. And, while I love the warm-weather comfort of joggers and capri pants, I hate having cold ankles on airplanes and cool morning walks, and I don’t like revealing my compression socks (which I sometimes wear on long flights). I’m also too self-conscious to wear skin-hugging tights; I like a little bagginess.…
Ted Turner, a brash television pioneer who raced yachts, owned huge chunks of the American West and transformed the news business by launching CNN and introducing the 24-hour cable news cycle, died Wednesday. He was 87. Turner died surrounded by his family, according to Turner Enterprises, the company that oversees his vast business interests. Turner owned professional sports teams in Atlanta, defended the America’s Cup in yachting in 1977 and donated a stunning $1 billion to United Nations charities. He married three women — most famously actor Jane Fonda — and earned the nicknames “Captain Outrageous” and “The Mouth of the South.” He once…
Last month, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated Tax Day by making good on a campaign promise. “When I ran for mayor, I said I was going to tax the rich,” Mamdani said in a viral video posted to social media. “Today, we’re taxing the rich.”Mamdani went on to describe New York’s proposed pied-á-terre tax, a collaboration with Gov. Kathy Hochul. The tax specifically targets the owners of residential properties in New York City worth more than $5 million that they don’t live in full time, or “the richest of the rich,” as Mamdani called them in his video.…
If you thought that embodied AI was all about humanoids and robotic good boys, allow me to introduce you to the Shuanglin K7. Equipped with a Level 4 driving brain that allows it to operate with no human intervention, this massive robot on four wheels can literally move on a dime, rotating 360 degrees on its own vertical axis and moving sideways like a crab, operating 24/7. According to its developers—Shuanglin Group and Tsinghua University—this massive 17.1-foot-tall robo-truck is the first of its kind and they believe it will forever change the mining industry. The vehicle represents a structural shift toward…
For over 10 years, Apple has depended on Taiwan-based TSMC to build the chips that power iPhones and Macs. That could soon change. Apple is talking with Intel and Samsung about producing its main processors in the US, according to Bloomberg. CEO Tim Cook said on the company’s recent earnings call that chip shortages are constraining growth for products like the Mac mini and iPhone 17 Pro. “We have less flexibility in the supply chain than we normally would,” he said. Intel’s stock jumped 12% on the news. But this goes deeper than just today’s supply problems. Apple likes having…
Published May 6, 2026 09:17AMIt’s well-established that women are better at pacing marathons than men are—that is, they’re less likely to go out too fast and then slow down dramatically in the second half of the race. By “well-established,” I mean that there are numerous scientific papers analyzing real-world marathon results that come to this conclusion, and plenty of press coverage spreading this message to the general public. That makes a new study in the Journal of Sports Sciences surprising in a dog-bites-man kind of way. It’s a reanalysis of exactly the same data used in a major 2015 study that…
Like many domestic workers, Leydy is no stranger to wage theft. In a previous job, Leydy had been hired as a cleaner and then asked to take on more and more responsibilities, from cooking to childcare—with no additional pay. When she approached her employer and said she either needed a raise or additional help, she was fired, and she never got paid for her work that week. “In my rage, I went to the police,” she told Fast Company through a translator. (Leydy requested to only use her first name to avoid potential retaliation.) “They told me I had to get…
What happens when you put Tesla veterans, Apple engineers and Ford misfits in a factory together at 3 a.m.? A $30,000 electric truck that could either save Ford or be its next Edsel. Ford has been running a secret “skunk works” project since 2022 to build an electric truck that can compete with Chinese automakers, says The Wall Street Journal. The team—led by Tesla Model S engineer Alan Clarke and staffed with Apple and Tesla veterans plus what Clarke calls Ford’s “misfits and malcontents”—is tearing up a century of manufacturing practices to hit that $30,000 price point. They’ve eliminated thousands…
China’s foreign minister on Wednesday called for a comprehensive ceasefire in the Iran war, in comments that could inject new energy into stalled efforts to end the two-month conflict between the United States and Iran.Wang Yi said his country was “deeply distressed” by the conflict. He spoke after meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who was visiting Beijing for the first time since the war with the U.S. and Israel started Feb. 28.China’s close economic and political ties to Tehran give it a unique position of influence.
