For the diehard skier, late summer and fall are preludes to winter, nothing more. As the days grow shorter and the temps drop, it’s time to dust the cobwebs off equipment, hit the squat rack with reckless abandon, and put your favorite ski movies on repeat. It’s also the perfect window to score a deal on a ski jacket, as online retailers liquidate last season’s stock to make room for new inventory.

To help you find a fresh ski jacket for less, our gear team sifted through our favorite men’s, women’s, and budget options from last year, looking for old favorites that are currently discounted. We also scoured the clearance shelves of REI and evo to find more discounts worth writing home about. The result: 13 bargains that are almost too good to be true. No matter if you’re on the hunt for a stylish resort kit or a featherweight backcountry shell, we’ve got you covered with the ski jacket deals below.

    Tested and Approved, On Sale

    50% Off Strafe Nomad Jacket

    (Photo: Courtesy Backcountry)

A stellar freeride option from Aspen’s own Strafe, the men’s Nomad is a stylish three-layer shell that can hang in bounds and out. In fact, it was our top pick for skintrack regulars last season thanks to a lightweight yet highly protective Pertex Shield membrane that provides top-tier weatherproofing. Meanwhile, the semi-baggy silhouette accommodates layering and looks damn good when it’s time to get clipped up on a park booter or a backcountry line. Even better, the Nomad is now on sale for 50 percent off, though colorways and sizing are limited. In other words? Don’t sleep on this one!

45% Off Columbia Platinum Peak II 3L Shell Jacket

If you want bang for your buck, peep the Platinum Peak II, a 20K/20K shell crafted with Columbia’s OmniTech waterproof breathable membrane. It boasts more features than expected given the price point, which explains why it was our recommendation for skiers on a budget last season—and that was at full retail. The Columbia shell is now heavily discounted, coming in at under 200 bucks and making it a slam-dunk pick for bargain hunters.

    33% Off Trew Cosmic Primo

Our favorite pick for storm skiing, the men’s Trew Cosmic Primo ski jacket is primed for moisture-heavy powder days from the Pacific Northwet to the cement-spackled Sierra. The fabric is a heavy-duty, 200-grams-per-square-meter, three-layer construction with Trew’s Primo membrane that’s unsurprisingly bomber but surprisingly breathable, too. Last year’s version is currently on sale in a variety of colors and a full size run—a rare combination that makes shopping as easy as a windlip backie.

30% Off Salomon Men’s Scrambler GTX Jacket

Another blazing bargain for backcountry-bound skiers, the now-discontinued men’s Salomon Scrambler features industry-leading Gore-Tex weatherproofing, a helmet-compatible hood, and vents and chest pockets that are easily accessed with a backpack. It also has a C-Knit backer that makes it comfy against bare skin if you’re rocking it with a t-shirt base layer come spring. Backcountry skiers can snag this one for over 200 bucks off, but sizing is limited. Luckily, the colorway is a subtle black and green that goes with everything.

49% Off Helly Hansen Ridge Infinity Shell Jacket – Women’s

If you prize durability, Helly Hansen’s Ridge Infinity Shell is a hard-wearing option that’s hard to beat at the current sales price of up to 50 percent off at Evo. Trusted by patrollers across the globe and SKI testers alike, the Ridge Infinity features a burly polyester face fabric backed by a Helly Tech Pro waterproof and breathable membrane. Inventory is low, at least at Evo where we found the deepest discount, so get on a move on like you’re fighting for first tracks on a powder day.

50% Off SCOTT Vertic Ripstop 3L

A fully featured shell with well-designed vents and pockets that’s reasonably priced at full retail, the Scott Vertic Ripstop 3L is now on sale for half off. It’s still available in a few colorways, but stock is extremely limited in the dapper two-tone green, bright red, and glacier blue options. The, er, most unique option—a black shell patterned with airbrushed grey and green—is still available across a range of sizes.

    50% Off Patagonia PowSlayer Jacket

Patagonia discounts are like bluebird powder days—they just don’t come around as often as we’d like. Savvy skiers will jump on this deal on the tester-beloved PowSlayer Jacket, a subtly styled, storm-ready three-layer shell with a highly weatherproof Gore-Tex ePE membrane and two capacious, skin-accommodating chest pockets. The shell is a double-duty threat that can hang on bell-to-bell resort days and backcountry missions alike, and the half-off discount ain’t half-bad.

50% Off Outdoor Research Cloudchaser 3L Jacket

If you’re on the hunt for a stretchy, capable shell without stretching your budget, check out the Cloudchaser, now on sale for 50 percent off. Outdoor Research optimized this shell for backcountry skiing, using an elasticized three-layer fabric with a Pertex Shield PET membrane and a durable 100-denier recycled polyester face fabric. The textile provides excellent precip protection and range of motion while touring, and pit zips add ventilation on spring sojourns. The minimalist shell is a beast in-bounds, too, and there’s an RFID pass pocket on the forearm for skiers who rely on chairlifts one day and skintracks the next.

    37% Off Mountain Hardwear Mythogen GORE-TEX Jacket – Women’s

As our female testers’ favorite overall ski jacket last season, the Mountain Hardwear Mythogen doesn’t cut corners. Thanks to a premium three-layer shell with a Gore-Tex Pro ePE membrane, the Mythogen is lightweight, highly breathable, and ready for whatever winter throws at you. The feature set is best in class, with well-executed internal and external pockets, and pit zips for breaking trail on balmy backcountry days. Our one gripe was the price, but the 37 percent discount at the time of writing significantly reduces the sting. Unsurprisingly, sizing and colorways are limited, so don’t sleep on this sale.

More Ski Jackets On Sale at REI

Oftentimes, when we’re scouring the web for discounted outerwear, we head straight to REI’s deals section. You’ll find heaps of jackets from the REI Co-op—always a go-to option for skiers on a budget—as well as top-tier brands like Patagonia, The North Face, Arc’teryx, and more.

REI Co-op Powderbound Insulated Jacket: Up to 60% Off

If you hate being cold as much as you hate spending money, the Powderbound might just have your name on it. REI’s proprietary waterproof and breathable membrane helps keep the retail price reasonable on this two-layer shell, while 80g of synthetic insulation in the torso and 60g in the sleeves adds welcome warmth on chilly chairlift rides. Factor in the current discount of up to 60% off, and you can walk away with a decent ski jacket for under a hundred bucks.

50% Off REI Co-op First Chair GTX Jacket

It’s no secret that Gore-Tex is the industry leader when it comes to waterproof and breathable membranes. It’s also no secret that the inclusion of Gore-Tex jacks up the price tag on any ski jacket. The REI Co-op’s two-layer, taffeta-lined First Chair GTX Jacket is too heavy and toasty for true backcountry applications, but it’s one of the cheaper Gore-Tex-equipped options on the market—and that’s before you consider the current half-off discount. For resort skiers who want Gore weatherproofing without the Gore sticker price, look no further.

More Ski Jackets On Sale at Evo

Evo’s outerwear outlet is overflowing with deals on ski jackets. From Evo-owned, Hokkaido-based Oyuki to high-performance heavy-hitters like Black Diamond, Rab, and Helly Hansen, there’s something for everyone in Evo’s clearance shelves.

40% Off Oyuki Goshiki (Men’s) and Nimi (Women’s) NetPlus 3L Jacket

Repurposed from recycled fishing nets, these three-layer shells from Oyuki offer sustainably minded skiers welcome peace of mind. Style points are through the roof, too, while the adjustable hood, Velcro cuffs, and internal wrist gaiters batten down the hatch on powder days. Last season’s colorways are on sale, including suave purples for both men and women, a beige option for the ladies, and glacier blue for the gents.

25% Off Arc’teryx Beta AR Jacket

Ready for low-vis blizzards and blower pow days, the generously discounted Arc’Teryx Beta AR features a lightweight yet durable three-layer fabric with a weatherproof, moisture-wicking Gore-Tex Pro membrane. The freeride-friendly silhouette is defined by a high collar, which keeps face shots from creeping into your base layers and wind chill from sending you into the lodge for hot cocoa.
